Ridiculous ISP MyRepublic - What Should I Do Now?

On early DEC 2016 I moved to my current property and I signed up with Myrepublic for NBN connection. Till Feb 2017 I still not got NBN installed. (My friend living 6 property next to me got NBN installed within 3 days by TPG)

During the time I called them more than 20 times but everytime they asked me to wait. So finally on early Feb I cancelled order with them and signed up with Optus and got internet installed within 3 days.

The process went smoothly when I called them to cancel the order. I was thinking all done so I never pay attention to that anymore. However today I received an email from a Credit company saying that I owe their customer Myrepublic $59.99 (obviously this is the first invoice when I signed up with them) and asked me to pay it. I even did not use one day of their service, and wasting my 2 months with no internet at home, it is ridiculous to ask me pay it.

I tried to call myrepublic but they do not have human to pick up the call. The auto reply asked me to use online chat. However every time when I try online chat it is saying they are not online now.

I left a message via email but not sure if they will reply. Do not know how a business like this can survive.

Now what should I do? As the credit company is chasing me to pay the bill which definitely I do not owe. Should I just wait for Myrepublic reply or should I pay first then go to consumer fair?

      Given the facts you've provided,
TIO will likely help you "Turn
Back the Clock, so you shouldn't
      be out-of-pocket.

If only you had been aware of TIO
      earlier, eh?

Looking back, it always helps to
Ask: How can I expect my new NBN service to work?

Then, you can have an even Stronger case, ie,
if weeks longer pass, & No Service.

      Good Luck…

PS Maybe come back & tell us
      How your issue was Resolved.

Wait for them to get back to you, it could have been a system error (collections call that is). If they still want to squeeze you for money lodge a complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) - https://www.tio.com.au.

Lodge a complaint with the TIO now.

    • +1

Yes, TIO need you to contact My Republic's "TIO team"
who will be given a little time to "Fix the Problem"

Only if that Team can't OR won't solve it to your
satisfaction, given a reasonable period of time
to try, will the TIO come to your rescue. :-)

Lodging a TIO complaint ASAP gets the Clock Ticking,
so your problem will get TIO's involvement earlier,
in the unlikely case that MyRepublic doesn't help you in time.

PS It's theoretically possible for another ISP
to Not be Registered w/ TIO (So, TIO can't help,
in that case), but MyRepublic IS, so your safe, IMO.

(How Nice for Companies, that they can PRECLUDE
TIO providing support for a consumer, ie,
      by simply Not registering…

I want that kind of "Opt-In" flexibility, eg,
in case I ever accidentally drive my car too fast:

"Sorry, Officer, but I'm Not Registered for Scrutiny
      by Police for Speeding…" ;~)

These guys are one of the worst ones to deal with.
I hv been in similar situations with them. They wdnt give a damn. Next thing, TIO.
They offered apology n one month free. I accepted. But again the issue happened. Calls went unanswered. Raised TIO complaint again to cancel my contract n not charge a penny. They cancelled my contract and sent a letter to me to return their modem (which was for $1 being in 12 month contract). I simply wrote them to prove this modem belonged to them. As I had paid $1 for that. Never received any letter further to return modem or whatsoever. I was so damn annoyed with these guys. They did not deserve a single penny.

  • Thanks all. Finally Myrepublic contacted me and said they have lodged a dispute with this charge and their solution team will contact me within 3 days. If not resolved I will contact TIO.
