I can’t see this deal (Total Plan Plus) on their website.
    What state are you in?
    Is there a link?

      I think it's targeted

      • Got the same email, for existing customers that have been with Energy Australia for longer than 6 months.

        • i am with them for 10 years got nothing

          • @SnoozeAndLose: About a week ago I received an email if I wanted to be notified of future plans that would save me more than my current plan. I opted in and received the Total Plan email today.

            More info here https://www.energyaustralia.com.au//home/electricity-and-gas…

            • @adr8: Where to opt in?

edit saw it in my plan change page 14% electricity and 18% Gas, no where near 25%

                • @adr8: Got it, Thanks.

Still more expensive than my currently usage only discount 30% for electricity and 28% for gas.

                  • @SnoozeAndLose: The total plan is the discount off both usage and daily charge, the 30% is just off usage. Also not sure if the rates are the same.

                    • @brendanm: I pay $500 a quarter so 30% discount on usage may be better.

                      • @SnoozeAndLose: You would have to calculate it, and as I said the price per kWh, or the daily usage charge, or both, may also be different. You can't go simply by "discount %" as it means nothing really.

                        • @brendanm: Sorry i should have said , I used a spreadsheet and compare the price and the new price structure is 5% more expensive than my current plan with EA.

I wonder what's the catch with that.

The same catch as always when dealing with EnergyAustralia. They advise big discounts % but always end up more expensive than their competitors lol.

    • Nonsense. I compared heaps of providers and I am miles in front with Energy Australia. 16.10c Feed in for the win. As always, do the math.

      • Really depend on your state and how much feed in you have.

Even the feed in rate is $1 still minimal for me as I only feed in 10kwh pre quarter.

I did the math. Excel spreadsheet and all. In Victoria, no matter which distributor, the cheapest is Tango. They're a small newbie retailer so I'm anticipating jumping ship whenever they raise their prices in 12-24 months time.

        • Tango energy does not do gas.

          • @kampua: I'm with Tango for electricity and Red for gas. Worked out cheaper overall than bundling both with Globird, who were previously the cheapest but hiked their rates.

Overall I pay slightly more for gas than I did in the previous bundle, but the reduction in electricity costs more than offsets that.

        • We've got low usage, and no solar. I went all through the government site tools. Ended-up with EnergyAustralia. By memory, several of those small companies had extremely bad reviews, contracts, only offered electricity (can't remember!) and/or very minimal difference in final cost. Long story short, it wasn't worth it.

          • @Ulysses31: EnergyAustralia have far higher daily supply charge than most competitors, so if you're low usage I'd double check your figures.

        • They've been around for years, used to be called Pacific Hydro.
Started going downhill last year when the ex-CEO of Sumo took over - no more lock-in rates for 2 years, and they try to push you onto higher rates than their regular offers when your contract expires.
They're still cheap, but not as good as they were and definitely more shifty.

    • I swapped to energy Australia after comparing all, it was by far the cheapest for me in Qld.

  • I got the same email, spoke to their online chat and she couldn't see the offer being available so I sent her the email and she applied it , estimated gas costs down several hundred based on usage compared to previous secure saver plan.

I have been with Energy Australia for 18mths after doing the vic gov comparison and as long as I monitor the plans and change accordingly I have saved a lot more than when I was with Origin Energy.

  • The merchant fees (or credit card payment fees) killed it I believe.
