Too many group deal postings !!!

It's getting a bit ridiculous at the moment with all the different group on deals being posted… Most of them are really crap deals too and they lie about the actual value…

It would be really nice if they were in a different section, or there was a way to filter them out…

  • Was just thinking the same thing.
If they had their own section then very few would even bother looking and even less would vote.
That would probably suit the posters who are usually reps looking for some hits and dont care if what they are peddling gets a vote or not, so long as they get somewhere to spam it.

    Chuck'em in the forums.

As long as members keep voting for them, then they will keep showing up. You can filter out seeing new deals posted from REPS and increase the vote threshold of the voted deals you see (e.g. Don't show deals with less than 1). http://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals In the preference link.

Too many dicks on the dance floor, ahh yes reminded me of that great song………..

Seems like its getting that way with these group buy deals.

  • or we could just all vote negative on their deals so they are banned from this website. i personally don't like the way group buy online companies do their business so I'd rather see them disappear. most of them dont even know what "customer service" is and if they've heard of it, they certainly don't show it.

i would like a check box with 'hide deals from this site' next to each deal.

a bit of a tangent, but in echoing sentiments others have expressed about the quality/usefulness of some comments/commenters:

i would like a check box with 'hide comments from this member' next to each comment.

  • I have no problem with truly good group deals that can be availed by a reasonable amount of people (like my $1 subway posting)…but, I have noticed ALOT of rep's jumping on lately. Maybe we should have an ozbargain committee to vote whether a rep's deal is even worth posting to the main site? That way, the reps will try even harder :) Plus the site won't get filled with crap!

If reps for any company post too many deals garnering no or negative votes, they will be banned either for a fixed period of time or forever. This is a manual process.

I do like matgals idea though. Personally, I really like group buy deals but don't care for any of the video game deals (I only have a wii)so I'd think filtering would be useful.

  • An alternate idea - might be a bit of dev though.

Have an alternate feed for group buy deals and have them not show up in the main feed unless with a high score.

Similar to "New Deals", "Popular" and "Freebies", a "Group Buy" category. Have a check box that is mandatory for new deals and enforce with 1 warning then 1 week ban policy.

They could show up on the main feed when they gather 10 or 15 votes as some great group buy deals do come up, but generally they are all just the same old generic deal.

    • you don't like thai food ;)

      • Trent Steele: Oh, hey… My 1:00 canceled. Have you had any lunch?
Homer Simpson: Yeah, but I usually have three or four.
Trent Steele: So where to eat? You like Thai?
Homer Simpson: Tie good. You like shirt?

      • I don't mind thai food. I don't like group deal spam. Or spiced ham in general…

      • it was a joke… since thai food at these places are so exorbently priced and generally not a bargain :P

        oh well

A bit like there are too many crappy 99c now free IOS app postings…

And JV you are one of the biggest offenders there…

    • You can block seeing iOS deals.

Go to an iTunes/iOS deal such as this one, hit the Hide from Listing link and check Hide deals from store iTunes Store

    • Not sure if you're aware, but this thread is two years old.
