Is It Still Possible to Buy a Good-Quality 55" FHD TV?

Hi team,

We're looking to upgrade our getting-long-in-the-tooth 50" TEAC FHD television which we got back in 2014. Before that we had a 55" FHD LG and we'd quite like to step back up to that screen-size. However, given our area is getting HFC curses, spits on the ground for the NBN next year and our viewing needs (mainly streaming Netflix/Stan and some light console gaming), there's no point in stepping up to a 4K panel.

However, I've checked out the sites for JB, GG, HN and BL and it seems as soon as you venture about 50" there's not an FHD panel to be found. Can anyone suggest a retailer who is still selling decent-quality 55" FHD TVs?

Cheers :)

  • as you venture about 50" there's not an FHD panel to be found.

There's plenty 55 and 60 inch TVs that are 1080p Full HD (being UHD 4K doesn't mean they can't display lower resolution and in fact helps quality when downscaling content). It's probably not cost effective to produce 1080p panels anymore as the industry standard is now 4K.

  • Upscaling FHD quality content on 4K TV makes it better than a FHD TV.

  • You can get a 100Mb plan on HFC and only need 25Mb for 4k netflix, I'm not sure why you'd want to stick with a FHD tv when 4k content is becoming more available all the time.
