My Kia Cerato is coming up for it's 4 year service soon the capped price is $660 which seems a bit steep to me, is it possible to shop around with other Kia service centres for a cheaper price or am I being ridiculous and a cheapskate
I want to use Kia as I don't want to create any problems with my warranty.
People say you can go to somewhere like Ultra tune and they can do a log book service but I just don't want to risk anything like that.
I have a printout I downloaded when I purchased my Kia Cerato in October 2016 and it says the 4 year - 60,000k service costs $487.
Inflation maybe?
I'd be looking around for an indy if Kia want to charge you that much.

Yeah that… the reason I say that is because I'm familiar with the inner workings of CPS plans and in most cases they're already heavily discounted.
If anything, dealers are likely to try and upsell additional work to make more money rather than discounting an already discounted service.
In any case - weren't you provied with the service costs up front when you bought the vehicle? That's kinda the whole point of a CPS plan…
Amazed it's 2019 and people are still no clearer on this - ANY MTA accredited mechanic can service your manufacturer warranty vehicle and it's still be covered - dealer warranty on 2nd hand cards NOT covered by manufacturer warranty is different and they CAN say where you get serviced.

Capped price servicing is a huge scam and at best offers nothing other than knowing the rorted amount in advance - a few co's have good ones where they price low for limited period i.e Toyota has ~$180/yr for 5yrs….have a Hyundai myself and them and Kia are very expensive.

This is generally conditional upon the mechanic using genuine parts.
Note that if you get your service done by a Kia dealer, you qualify for 12 months free roadside assistance including towing to the nearest Kia dealer in the event of a breakdown.

No point saving a hundred bucks from the 660 then having to buy RACQ.
A towing is about $85.
I got mine slightly cheaper but had 4 tyres changed as well.
These are the additional replacement parts compared to the cheaper services:
Replace Fuel Filter
Replace Brake Fluid
Replace Fuel Tank Air Filter
Just FYI if you suffer from the problem of putting your remote in your pants pocket and the boot opening when you sit down, you can get both your remotes changed to an updated model to prevent this from happening.
Only found out about it when I commented on how many times it happened to me to the service manager after which he told me about the remotes, getting them changed soon.

This is news to me - has there been a fault identified with the remotes and they can be replaced for free???
Do you know what the updated remotes are like - any better???

Yes, this is an issue identified and the replacement is free for both remotes.
The updated remote has the normal raised bumpers below each button, with the boot button made smaller (o.5cm by 1cm) and physically recessed into the remote.

With Toyota Capped price servicing, its impossible to get someone to match that price, ($120) now with Kia at $630 you might find better prices outside Kia
$642 comes out as $12.35 a week to keep you car well maintained. Not too unreasonable when you break it down.
What does 660 get you, are we talking just an oil change, or are there additional service items e.g., transmission oil, brakes, fuel filter etc.
Also these extended warranties (e.g., 5-7years) are a good way to keep us chained to the stealership… I reckon my next will be a Toyota, I think their capped servicing pricing is reasonable. Their diagnostics are a bit pricey, but probably comparable to other dealerships.
What does 660 get you
21 tasks to be performed are "Inspect" so a 1st year apprentice will do them.
All they are really doing besides that is replacing oil and filter, replace sump plug washer, replace cabin pollen filter, replace fuel tank air filter, replace brake fluid. (same 1st year apprentice)
Road test (thrash the guts out of it, pick up lunch for the workshop employees).
Tell customer the brakes need replacing, tyres need replacing, ask if they are paying cash or card.
Push customer out of door while they are dazed and a lot poorer.

KIA owner here. At service #3 they did warn me that the next one would be a "big one" compared to the others.
Gotta factor in the 12mths roadside assistance into the total cost as others have mentioned already.
Also the capped price is a bit of a rort… it is not fixed for the life of the vehicle, they can change it any time they like. If you think about it, it is really a table of the MINIMUM prices you are going to pay for your service, even though they market it as the MAXIMUM. Since they will always try and tack something else on at the time anyway. And they are never going to charge you less than the capped price are they?
I paid $550 for an equivalent service on my Kia Cerato but my main fear is that the dealer will charge you but not do the service.
I asked about the higher price for the 4 year cerato service and was told the fuel filter change over was a part factor. The rear seat has to be removed to gain access to the fuel filter compartment in the cerato. He had no answer why it is in such a hard and time consuming place. I also have the boot popping problem too, is the change of remotes free, does anyone know.
You should see how a Honda Accord Euro is done. A bunfight and the filter itself is $55-$100.

It's all balanced out by the cheaper services after that
