Trying to Port to Kogan Mobile. Can't

I asked this on whirlpool but the only response i got was to buy more credit for my old sim so i can send the code but i thought i'd ask on ozbargain because maybe some people on here have some experience with kogan mobile with their sim deals?

Ok so i'm trying to switch to kogan mobile for the first time and i'm getting really frustrated. I got a prepaid 40gb unlimited call sim, put it in my phone and did the activation stuff, chose to port my number because it's normally really easy and pain free. But for some reason kogan requires you to keep your old sim in your phone to receive a code and then reply with that code before activation starts and your number gets ported.

Problem is my old sim has expired meaning no credit and it won't let me reply to the code, meaning it won't start the activation. It says if you're having problems replying to this msg call this number but again, no credit, can't call.

So wth am i supposed to do now? I don't have any other phones i can call from and don't have anyone's phone i can borrow.

Seeing as though they offer a number to call, what i would try, would be call from a different phone and explain the situation to them.

Find one? Kogan needs to know you actually control the number you're trying to port. If you can't receive messages or call from that number, they can't be sure it's still your number.

    • I've never had to do this before, every time it gets transferred automatically, and i've switched providers many times. I put in all the information they should need to verify i am the owner during setup, including DOB, address, licence number etc.

Kogan Mobile now requires you to SMS a confirmation code from the number you are porting to one of their system mobile number as a confirmation of your intention.

It's a new security feature to stop identity thieves from gaining control of other people's phone numbers. All Telcos will be required to implement this.

  • I posted my workaround to this here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7447983/redir

    • click and call website? thanks

  • So i was able to borrow someone's phone and call kogan. Talked to a person with a heavy Indian accent, could barely understand them and they said they'll call me back in 24-48 hours before activation can proceed. Jeez thanks. At least i know never to go with kogan mobile again after this
