Free 12 months if you've got prime though. Pretty solid deal

      • -7

So free if you’ve got a paid twice prime membership?

        • +2

Yeah sure if want pay twice

      • Also works with Amazon Prime trial. Just tried it out

  • +3

Kart and Super Mario World!!! Wooooo!

  • +4

it's finally worth getting switch online now

    • +5

Isn't it like $23 a year or $7 if you join a family sub? I think you meant it's even more worth it compared to paying $70 for PS Plus or XBL.

      • +22

As someone who games on a PC and all the consoles, I'd say that it's an absolute farce that console users have to pay to play online. This is something PC users have had for decades without paying.

If it weren't for some games having a better player base on console, the exclusives and PC having a pretty terrible living room experience, I wouldn't touch consoles.

        • -2

But you are getting value add nowadays with all 3 services.

        • +3

I don't even play online console games but I find value in PS+.

A lot of the freebies they've given away this year have been amazing (Darksiders 3 and Arkham Knight in September :O) and the further double discounts for being a plus member pretty much ends up paying for itself over time.
It's always worth waiting for the sales on Black Friday where you can pick up the cheap ~half price 12 month subs from Ebay or other digital sellers too, which I stock up on rather than paying full price.

Nintendo Online was pointless with nothing of value for me before and I was only subbed due to the Twitch Prime freebie, with this Snes news and hopefully more games coming I'm much more likely to resub :)

          • +2

@Stoibs: To me PS+ is the worst value of all paid services. At least with Microsoft you get to keep the monthly 360 games that come with the Gold Sub.

PlayStation games are locked behind the constant subscription renewals which equates to effectively nothing if you can't justify the ongoing payments. As for the discounts, I understand they're good at times, but you'd be having to spend a lot to make up the $50-$80 subscription fee.

          • +2

@Stoibs: I'm not saying that there's no value in the subscription services, I'm just saying that you're essentially paying for a service which is available for free on PC (and has been for decades too). I personally find some level of value in PS+ and Xbox Live Gold too (especially combined with Xbox Game Pass, it's a pretty good deal).

        • -3

As someone that games on planet earth I understand that this is the way because people were willing to pay for it. I can't change that but I can see that at 33% of the price of its competitors it isn't bad value.

          • @[Deactivated]: I've had to to all my PC gaming for the last 18 months in my living room. The experience is actually great on a 55" tv.

            • @AEKaBeer: I haven't mentioned living room pc mate.

        • +5

PC having a pretty terrible living room experience

I suggest you're doing it wrong.

          • @Ulysses31:

I suggest you're doing it wrong.

Yeah look, when everyone gathers at my house, nothing beats a Mario Kart or Smash tourney. There's nothing close to that experience on the PC. Don't get me wrong, I prefer PC, but there are basically no split-screen or couch co-op type games.

            • @p1 ama: Not quite what you're after, but if your TV supports split screen with multiple inputs, you can use Aster on your PC and do one output for one player and another output for the other, then do multiplayer 'online'.

              • @NobalaKoba:

Not quite what you're after, but if your TV supports split screen with multiple inputs, you can use Aster on your PC and do one output for one player and another output for the other, then do multiplayer 'online'.

Yeah, I've heard of various solutions (including this), but I still think PC is a different experience because those who develop PC games generally develop for a majority (who generally play alone - whether online or offline - with a keyboard/mouse…etc.)

I have great fun playing with mates online, my wife and I play over LAN all the time, but it's a different experience to playing games like Mario Kart and Smash on the big screen.

                • +2

@p1 ama: I agree it's a different experience, but if your TV or an HDMI/Displayport splitter supports it, it's effectively split screen, as both players are on the same screen.

I agree that Switch is the best console for local multiplayer, just making sure you're aware of other possibilities as well.

            • +1

              @p1 ama: I get what you're saying. 100%.

But PC + emulators + PJ… My lounge looks like PAX convention

    • +7

Get free 12-month nintendo subscription if you are a Amazon prime member

edit: nvm, OP stated it in description

      • +1

        I didn’t know this! Thanks!

      • Thanks mate…didn't know that.

      • Amazing didn't know this! Didn't know Amazon prime = twitch prime! Thanks

        • Did not know this! I just bought it today as well.

    Super Mario Kart is brutal

    • +4

      best mario kart

      • But not most brutal.

Unrecogniseable freak-out noises come from our mouths, while playing the Switch version. Utter chaos, at times, due to the developer's level creativity.

    • +1

      No online news/snes though

      • -5

There is if you know what you're doing.

      FBI OPEN UP

      • Prepare your anus!

    • +1

Pffft, you paid for piracy and think you're getting a good deal?

  • Are these like Xbox GamesPass type games, where you can only play with an active subscription?

Or do you keep the licenses after your subscription ends?

    • Same question

    • +1

      The first part.

    • Yes, need an active sub

      • -2

        meh

        • It’s like $20 for a year… that’s basically free.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Please hand in your ozbargain membership

            • -3

@[Deactivated]: I come here to find more things to buy. If you’re poor, you won’t be reading OzBargain and buying loads of automatic umbrellas and Eneloops. You’ll be keeping your wallet shut altogether.

OzBargain is for people with loads of spare money looking at ways to justify spending it.

              • +2

@[Deactivated]: I get where you're coming from, but disagree. I don't have a lot of spare money, but thanks to this site I've got years worth of necessities such as deodorant and soap (yesterday's chemist warehouse deal) to help me simply survive at a lesser cost.

                • @Faro: Fair enough. But the ratio of electronics to necessities on the front page suggests that isn’t the typical case.

              • +3

                @[Deactivated]: Neh.
                For many, it's a window shopping time-waster

      My all time fav game.

      • Oh yeah I forgot about that version. Did you play Samus Returns? I thought it was great.

        • Haven't got around to it… Despite having since day 1 lol

      • maybe this will help lol

ALARM: Emergency, emergency! Emergency, emergency! Incoming enemy fighters -
        prepare for launch!

        FOX: All ships check in!
        FALCO: Ready, Fox!
        SLIPPY: OK!
        PEPPY: Yeah - let's go!

        The Starfox OST rocks!

        Nintendo….you should just remake Starfox.

        • +5

          I think you mean Starwing!

          • @Tunblor: Interesting….didn't know it had a different name.

            Well it's Starfox for me.

            • @luffyex2010: Excerpt from Wikipedia:
“Due to perceived issues with the German company StarVox,[1] Star Fox and Star Fox 64 were released in PAL region territories as Starwing and Lylat Wars respectively. However, as of Star Fox Adventures, Nintendo went back on this decision so future games could be released worldwide with the same name.”

  • Super Mario world! Bring it on!! I only need to get a subscription!

    • ~~not sure if it's still available.

Create US switch account, buy US credits $30 usd from gameasia and they redeem to buy this

My fav game lol Tetris 99 + 12 months subscription

Not sure if it's still on the US eshop.

NVM it's no longer on the eshop

  • +3

The free online subscription from Amazon has really came in handy.

  • +2

Starting the 5th would mean what part of the worlds 5th? Had a look online , not there yet.

    • It says the 6th for us on the Japanese Direct so yea.. The rest of the world gets it on the 5th.

Fingers crossed we get it at midnight tonight.

  • Being a newbie for NSO here: does it mean you can download those games listed to your switch if you are subscribed to NSO?

    • +1

      Yep

      • +2

And only playable whilst still subscribed.

  • -4

Some GREAT games.. But so old hat that the numerous emulator options make this uninspiring.

At the cost of a family sub, sure. Not full price. (Nb I don't do multiplayer - I have no time to git gud enough to play online - so currently I only have it for free through twitch and the only thing it does for me that's useful is cloud save. Which is a crock and should be free)

If they committed to creating an emulator and putting the whole catalogue up, then sure. Switch could be an amazing system if it had all snes, n64 (and.. Dreaming.. wii?). Crazy good. They could always record what titles you play and split some of the NSO funds between the respective developers

    • +1

Can't you see any issue with trying to put up the whole catalogue?

Regardless, they also don't wanna kill the strong indie scene on the Switch.

  • Official Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller - Also available for $39.95 each + $7.50 Delivery (Free over $70 Spend) for those interested.

    Alternately just purchase a Pro Controller/8BitDo Controller…

    • +1

      Already ordered 2 :)

      Sucker for that.

  • It's not a great deal, but it is great to finally be able to get SNES games on the Switch. Finally.

Does anyone know if the games will work without wireless connection? Like on the train for example? I'm gonna get a membership just for SNES games :')

    • +3

Yeah you'll need to download them somewhere with an Internet connection first, then they'll be available for 7 days from the last time your switch "checked in" with Nintendo.

      • That's great, thanks for the info :)

  • +3

The twitch prime offer is still available until September 24th; not too late to grab it!

    • +1

As a true follower of the OzBargain way, I will wait until the day before this expires to remove myself from the shared family account I joined (through OzBargain) which expires mid-January and jump over to the free 12 months from Twitch Prime.

      • +1

oh is ozbargin fam doing a family account, where's the signup :) ?

        • +4

There are posts from time to time in the Classified section of OzBargain where people look for family subscriptions to share!

        • You can use Classified, to find a group or set one up.

          • @RichardL: Thanks both Clintyip and RichardL,
Just made a post on classified recruiting members to join my family :D

            • @Fappy Bunny: Currently, have 4/8 slots left for other Ozbargain members who want to join the family :)

  • Bring on double dragon and i’ll Pay the annual fee!

  • What an awesome line up of content.

  • A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

  • +3

They need to get Blizzard onboard and bring out Rock'n'Roll racing!

  • This has made my day!

I wish they would bring out a new pilotwings. It would suit the portability of the switch nicely

  • Yessss. I just realised Twitch Prime had that free 12-month Switch Online deal to claim. Just got it.

  • +1

    is this active yet ?

    • I believe it's 5th of September in America, so it might be 6th (tomorrow) for Aussies

  • is it worth getting the NES and SNES controllers? I read it only works with the Nintendo Online games

  • -1

Almost makes me wish I didn't mod all these games on my switch last year. almost.

  • +1

It’s 5th already even in US but still can’t see these games for free on switch online account.

    • Yea same here.
