Will you be sad about missing that $100-200? Otherwise theyre basically on par and amd has the better drivers atm so if it were me I would go a 5700xt
AMD does NOT have the better drivers at the moment. Head over to reddit.com/r/amd. Plenty of documented issues with 5700(xt) drivers.
BSODs from using hardware acceleration in browsers and discord. 75hz monitors don't work, have to set to 60hz. 144hz free sync doesn't work, has to be set to 120hz.
That said, if you assume that the drivers are going to be stable soon (who knows), the price/performance ratio for the 5700xt is way better than the 2070 super. Spend $100usd more for about 7% more fps (averaged across a number of titles from various reviewers). And nvidia prices here are currently out of whack with the USD msrp - amd's reference cards are much more in line. Custom amd models are still crazy high.
I'm an AMD fan, but I will be the first to admit AMD do NOT have the better drivers. There are far more reported issues with their drivers as opposed to Nvidia. On Linux is a different story, but the AMD drivers on Windows are definitely inferior, both in terms of stability and performance.
I'm struggling with the same toss-up! The bulk of reviews suggest 5700xt is probably better value but 2070 super generally has slight performance edge, but it depends on the particular game. In this case the 2070 super is about $75 extra.
HKS comment is interesting because I was under the impression nVidia drivers were more stable than AMD?
NVIDIA current driver has some performance loss on pre Turing cards but otherwise makes Turing better. In fact it's fine wine for NVIDIA as per Hardware Unboxed latest test, the RTX 2070 Super gained avg 4% performance compared to RX5700XT since the XT launch.

Was specifically in Forza and Apex mind, as they previously performed bad there
$200 difference if you go for reference blower 5700xt
Does depend on the game. Vut on average it's 6% better. Nowhere near a few hundred dollars worth.
As for drivers, it varies person to person. Plenty who have no issues with the Navi cards and a few who have a tonne. Worst case you could always RMA and go for the "super" if you're one of the unlucky few
friends of mine upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers and have experienced stuttering in every single game with their 2080ti's and one 2080. meanwhile another friend has a 5700xt which was bad for the first few weeks and now it runs fine with the latest version of AMD drivers so im going off their experiences.
Thanks all for the advice. I decided to go for the 2070 super ($754). I've got a foot in both camps for this build, AMD for the CPU (Ryzen 3600) and nVidia for the GPU. Fingers crossed.
If you want to pay an extra 100-200 for ray tracing.
Otherwise I would go for the XT
Being it's first gen ray tracing and games already cripple FPS with ray tracing enabled
Granted I do want to play quake 2 RTX… But. It worth spending the money
What's the lowest price for 2070 Super?
750 with current eBay sale
No deal, when reference boards could be bought for ~$100 less. Custom boards do cost more, but not $100 more… Will wait for prices to settle first…
Yeah they're shocking right now. Would rather put in the extra effort to do one of those washer mods.
I reckon with an undervolt the reference should perform fine enough though. Wish there was more testing here… might have to ask on the AMD sub over on Reddit.
I had the reference card and yeah, with an undervolt it's pretty decent. I returned it because of a warped PCB around the mount, so if I were to repaste and it failed down the line I'd probably be blamed for breaking it, so that particular one was no good for me… but having seen the partner card pricing here I'm tempted to buy another reference card.
That said, this card seems to be the best available here in regards to thermals under $700, so if one had to buy a partner card right this moment, this would be it… but really not worth $100 more unless you want the headroom to overclock it with a power level increase above about 20% and also keep it quiet. That 20% threshold is based on mine without any mods, just an undervolt, so possibly with modding the reference can take a bit more power at the same sound level, but I think the mounting pressure was on the good side on mine to start with. As 20% is inefficient territory, more than that is more power than I want to convert to heat during the summer anyways.
Gonna wait for Intel XE, feel like using something different. Good time to be alive in the pc hardware space.
Next year'll be a hell of a year for GPUs. AMD back in the game, Intel in the game and Nvidia forced to actually put in effort.
As I know the reference model is cheaper but it has overheating and high noise problem, So my choice for RX 5700 XT is this model which cost a bit more without its reference model issues, but as an Ebayplus member I have another option GeForce RTX 2070 8GB with similar price.
I am not a gamer and all I care is mostly 4k Video Editing and VFX
Programs I want to use is Adobe PR, AE, Cinema 4D, Maya, Houdini, Nuke, RealFlow etc
Which one would you guys recommend
Please help me to decide, Thank you
I'd go for reference and look into the ways of fixing the temp issues personally. More effort, but you save a fair bit of cash.
Would rather pay $100 more for a 2070 Super IMO. Otherwise give this more time for the price to drop down if you want the AMD
Are these non-blower models really worth the $100 over the reference models?
depends on your case airflow
Not at all. Stupidly overpriced in Aus.
I know this doesn't really fit the discussion, but wanted to add I was in a similar toss up a few months back… I had the 1070ti and needed more performance to drive a new 4k freesync monitor…
I was tossing up between upgrading to a 2070, 5700xt or go full blown 2080ti. However, in the end, I just went all out and got the 2080ti instead and playing "Control" at ~58fps with full Ray Tracing and DLSS on 4k everything maxed is really beautiful.
Some reasoning is that while one can argue that it's first gen Ray tracing and what not… nvidia has always taken their sweet time in upgrading their graphics card lines.. the 1070 I had last gen lasted me 3 years and towards the end was struggling to push 4k… So if you got the cash to splash, just splash it, splurge, get it once and don't have to worry about it for the next year or 2.. and enjoy every game at everything maxed!
Is this worth 120 bucks extra over the reference?
Maybe if this were the pulse or red devil. But apparently this one has issues with the temp bouncing around.
I'd buy the reference and UV. Maybe that washer mod if it's still bad. Just doesn't seem worth the premium these cards hold right now.
also on offer for 675.75 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-Radeon-RX-5700-XT-GAMIN…
AMD has bad Linux support. Have a Vega 64 and Linux distro support is limited and forced to use Ubuntu 18.04. No support for 19.04. Trying to post on amd forums is also a joke. It's almost like they don't want to hear feedback because it's easier to stick the head in the sand. Can't even get hashcat going.
Won't be going AMD again.
