Wear and Tear Vs. Poor Quality Product

Hello. I've brought an ASICs pair of shoes approximately 1 year ago. Has had probably less than 1 wear/week, likely total 50 is that many wears, but assuming it has had 100 wears. The sole of the shoe is not worn at all (unlikely my NIKE shoes which are worn > 1000 wears).

Recently I've noticed the mesh started to break, and the other day after a run I've noticed that the mesh at the toes was about to completely break. (Image - https://imgur.com/eU21Nue)

The question is, therefore: does this qualify for warranties, or is this the normal expected wear and tear and perhaps this is the quality that I should expect for shoes nowadays.

If I should pursue this, then how do I go about doing so, given that the store has pretty much said it is expected to break at 100 x wear.

This looks like wear from incorrect size. Do you have wide feet. If you stretch that park to tolerance then walk in them it will break. Also where did you store them. They are made out of materials thst can damage in sun or in cupboard by moths.

    • Seconded, the mesh seems to have been worn by extra pressure from inside, meaning OP's feet are pressing against it more than it should be. That's a sizing issue, not a shoe quality issue.

      • I guess the other foot is not broken. At the same time, I suppose that both feet are not the same. It could very much be pressure from running. But it is hard to say, whether the fault is due to mesh or pressure or poor quality?

        • other foot is not broken

80% of people's right foot are smaller than their left.

        • But it is hard to say, whether the fault is due to mesh or pressure or poor quality?

Given the 'fault' corresponds exactly with where your foot would strain against the mesh (big toe, outside of foot), definitely pressure.

  • How much were they?

  • I recently had a problem with a pair of shoes, the shoe lace ripped through the shoe lace hole, I didn't even pull them that hard. While I had had the shoes for about 6 months, I probably only had worn them about 40-50 times.

I discovered that shoes have pretty much no warranty in Australia, considered a high wear and tear item. Also found that most footwear brands (that I saw) had pretty much no warranty on them. Most only a 30 fit guarantee. I ended up being lucky that the store said they will send them back to the manufacturer to get their opinion, but after 3 weeks I had no response, so I went into the store and the manager gave me a refund.

    • Asics Gt2000s?

    • I had a really good experience with Ascent brand shoes from Foot Locker, got a pair replaced on warranty after about 1.5 years. They are a Brisbane based company so I'm guessing they are the minority.

      • Mine were Ascent. I bought a pair and after a few weeks the glue holding the sole on started separating, and they replaced them on the spot, and then the replacement pair is the ones the shoelace ripped through. Very disappointing for the brand.

    • The shoe company this time won't give me a warranty. How do I pursue this?

The shoe looks too small/ not wide enough for your feet. It's bulging at the top and this is what has caused the damage. Need a 3rd option in the poll: big foot vs small shoe. The shoe lost :p

    • The shoe lost :p

      You haven't seen OP's foot…

    • The shoe is definitely not small. It might even be because it is larger.

      • Ah! So its digging your toes in, to hold on to the shoe, that's pushed the mesh upwards and damaged it. I wouldn't think you have any legal recourse. Did you pay RRP for the shoes?

P.s: Could you please confirm , to set the ever-solicitous H&D's concern at rest , that your foot will survive the trauma? :p

  • ASICS GT 2000 6 Men's Shoes Dark Grey/Black/Fiery Red??

I I had problems with this ASICS shoe returned 1st pair after 4 runs total 22kms.Got replacement and same issue but this time after 18kms and 3 runs.

Returned again and asked for a different colour shoe. They sent the black one and now have over 400kms without any issues.

    Definitely a poor quality product.
Raise the issue with ASICS Australia if the seller isn’t playing ball.

Cost me $17 to send them back to ASICS where they inspected and confirmed that they were faulty.
