Hey guys, I'm moving to my new apartment, just wondering where do you guys hide your spare home key ? I used to put my spare key in a magnetic key holder under my car but after a few bumpy rides that little key holder is gone forever with my key :(
Where do you hide your spare home key?

I live in an apartment as well.
Family has a set of spare so can collect it from them if needed.
I also have a spare set in a external storage space I hire nearby.
My neighbours. I have theirs too. On both sides. Good neighbours are a blessing.
Likewise.

I hide my key under my front door mat, because nobody would ever think I'd be dumb enough to hide my key under my front door mat.
Unless the thief is also dumb and thinks of the first spot they would hide it.
Secret.
Keep it with a family member that lives close by.
The magnet idea is brilliant. Should stick a magnet on the key itself and attach it under something.
In my wife's handbag.
My spare key is on my key ring, right next to the original key.
I leave mine hanging up inside the house.
In the freezer next to the dead bodies.
My butler Jeeves has it
If you have a ferocious dog, a good place is attached to its collar
until they learn to give poisoned meat to the dog
The book Papillon has some good ideas where to hide small items.
I have my spare key under the car but it's cable-tied on with 2 cable ties.
How do you get it off?
They are the reusable / releasable type similar to:
https://www.bunnings.com.au/cobra-100mm-white-releasable-cab…I had to drill a bigger hole in the key so they would fit through.
I carry a Leatherman Micra 95% of the time so I can cut them off as well. I've had this little guy for 20 years. Best thing ever.

Installed something like one of these on our front security door that opens outways into the unit block hallway to stop the door banging on the wall, key fits inside quite nicely.

That's really smart.
How do you get to have a spare home in Australia
(let alone a key for it)Sounds like a David Koch special.

Is that code for 'from mum and dad, if they want grandkids'?
Hidden in the kids' treehouse, together with a torch, snacks, some coins and a bottle of water. It's the kids' emergency stash.
On the top of the architraves of one of the fire doors in the apartment building's stairwell.
there is a combination padlock with key/small item compartment.
Use it and hide it somewhere safe enough. That way, even though someone find it, they have to crack the combination first.
Under a rock. Next to the front door of your apartment. No one will think to look there.
I put a spare key somewhere in the shed, but it's too messy and I can't find the bloody thing now :/ Hopefully a thief cleans up my shed and finds it for me.
Bake it inside of an actual loose brick, which I would have to smash in order to get the key out, after digging it up of course.

As a tradie, I'm always dealing with customers who have left the key in a 'safe place'.
Most common places are
- Underneath the nearest plant pot
- Underneath the nearest rock.
- Underneath the bins.
Very rarely come across keys left under the mat. That's too obvious.
If you're in an apartment, I'd recommend getting permission from the building manager/body corp and installing a code key lock box attached to a solid railing.
I used to keep it stuck to the bottom of a random AC ducted fan in our apartment carpark. But I lost my actual key about 2 years ago and have been using the spare ever since.
Worst part was the door wasn't even locked when I lost the first key so it may as well have been stored in the drawer of random stuff in the kitchen.
Damn, So much information but no actual address. Can you guys please share the address along with where the key is. I just want to go and verify.
Installed a code key lock for the apartment mailbox, spare key is taped on the inside roof of the box with black tape. Came in handy a couple of times now.
We have a spare set inside as well as another set with my parents.
We also have one of these on a wall in the backyard. It has a spare front door key in it so we can always use that if need be. Not hidden at all, but lots of people just think it is a retic box or similar and if they wanted in bad enough to tackle the key box they would no doubt just smash a window.

Hahaha this sounds like something a thief would ask :p
(seriously though, I keep it locked at work)
