Any Complete Car Rental Insurance Inc Tyres, Windscreen etc

How's this for being unlucky?!

First day I got my rental, still getting a hang of left hand driving, I nudged the curb. Poof, burst my first tyre. I replaced tyre at my own expense.

Last day of driving, I must of hit some debris and got a double whammy, both passenger tyres burst. Lucky a tyre shop was nearby but they only had 1. Replaced 1 tyre and limped back to Avis on the space saver.

Unfortunately my credit card doesn't cover tyre damage nor would Avis' insurance if I had paid extra.

So are there any car rental insurance that offers the whole package?

I found Worldwide Insure but are UK based. They will accept Aussies but seeing if there is one locally

  • Car hire companies in Australia do not cover underbody or tyre damage even if you reduce your excess (credit card insurance does not also)

If you damage the tyres you will have to cover the cost.

I know that already. I'm looking if there are insurance companies in Australia that offers the complete package like Worldwide Insure. So next time I am more prepared.

      • I feel like learning to drive better might be better preparation. Because just:

        nudged the curb

Won't burst a tyre, any tyre. Not only did you do this, you did this TWICE, the second time even more seriously because you busted 2 tyres. What if it wasn't a curb but a parked car? Or a pedestrian?

        • It will if the curb is chipped, which is pretty common.

        • They were low profile tyres. If you read the experiences of other owners, they will say they have zero give on any size bumps even at low speeds.

Do you always hit the curb while driving? how about driving without hitting the curb? :)
I don't know about you, but so far I only had two damage to the wheel, two chipped windscreen and zero tyre damage after 15+years of driving.
What I'm try to say, those things don't happen often.

Not sure why you negativing me.
Do your maths. Normal domestic travel insurance is like $100 per 10 day.
if you use something like https://tripcover.com.au/, $350 per 10 day. Would be a good deal if you hitting a curb regularly.

    • That's what I'm after. Thanks for that

  • You’ve already said you were unlucky to have this tyre issue. Chances are it won’t happen again. If you aren’t a bad driver, paying extra for premium insurance will not be worth it in the long run because you are unlikely to require it to pay for tyres again. If you are a bad driver that regularly damages tyres, learning how to drive properly will be a cheaper option.
