Luxury Brand (Infiniti - Nissan's Luxury Marque) Leaves Australia after Slow Sales

https://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/motoring/luxur…

Luxury car maker Infiniti is set to leave Australia following slow sales and a global change of direction for the brand.

Just for anyone thinking of buying - might mean lower prices for existing stock (no idea if this is a thing), but also will mean possibly more troublesome servicing in the future (though Nissan might be able to service them).

they are so rare on the road!

    • Yeah, I don't think Infiniti differentiated themselves from Nissan enough in Australia - the only models I saw on the roads were rebadged Nissans (G35s, etc) which defeats the purpose. Especially since the Nissan versions were already RWD which takes away a huge reason to go Infiniti instead of Nissan.

Clearly marketing fail, never even heard of it

Edit: then I saw Infiniti’s logo, pretty sure I saw them on the road as China’s Chery…

I saw few of them around but I didn't knew they were luxury, no wow factor either.

I test drove one, nothing special, premium pricing without growing the brand first. The large SUV is one of the ugliest cars I have seen.

Can pick up a Q50 for less than $37K new now…

Loove the text of the ad

Come and see for yourself why many owners chose the Q50 compared to the Audi A4, , BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS, Alfa Romeo Giulia or Mercedes-Benz C-Class

So many they are now leaving 😀

Alfa Giulia beats any of them!

Underrated car, lot of potential, wasted. Bad marketing, too high price tag. Shame because its actually a good car (Skyline)

because its actually a good car (Skyline)

True, but I think that's part of the issue - people are more familiar with Nissans so for a model that's a rebadged Nissan, no reason to buy the Infiniti version over the Nissan one.

Yep totally, I dont understand the dim witted Nissan management here, they did the same thing with the Pulsar, called it the Tide pod or whatever, then killed sales of a decent car.

If they just released the top of the line 3.0TT AWD and RWD version, called it a Skyline Q50, with a auto and 6MT at under $60K mark it would of sold well. Just stupid, but with the Nissan CEO going to jail not surprised anything Nissan circling the drain.

  • Perhaps they need a rebrand and have better designs? Our car market is tiny anyway.

I went and checked one out at the dealership a few months ago and closing the door sounded like a tin can. Very disappointing.

    • Is that the only thing you did during the test drive? how about the road noise while driving?

      • -1

'Tyre kicking' might be more suitable.

    • Interesting you mention that. There is an online video talking about sound professionals to make car doors close with deep sounds, vacuums to be louder then they need to be,and other stuff, even though unrelated to the product.

Poor journalism. Can't even get the brand name right. It's Infiniti, not Infinite.

Looks like they corrected some references in the article since this morning but still missed one in the body of the article and in the headline.

    • Haha nice catch. That name must be a nightmare for autocorrect though.

I didn't even realise they were still being sold here.

I only ever saw one Infiniti in Australia, and it was a Right2Drive hire vehicle. Infiniti must have been flogging them off really cheaply.

  • Infiniti seems to be popular in the US, and pops up in various tv shows and such (eg Kevin Finnerty - "He drives a Lexus"). So I personally associate it with the US, not Japan.
    Similar to Toyota's Scion brand.

Which is not an association that works in their favour.

    • Yeah - the US being a bigger market has a lot more luxury (pseudo-luxury?) marques, like Acura for Honda, Genesis for Hyundai (which is also now here in Australia), Lincoln of Ford, etc.

Though I'm fairly sure Infiniti was aiming to be compared to Lexus, not Scion lol.

      • Yea those are much better examples. I've heard of Acura and I don't want it. Genesis I hadn't heard of before they entered Aus, and I think they seem pretty good.

Yet I'd rate Honda over Hyundai.

      • The "Genesis" marque is in the US, but isn't in Australia yet, where the Genesis models are still under "Hyundai".

  • Henry Rollins was their shill in the US, hence more popular there.
    Here, nada.

  • Ugly cars

  • This is the takeaway line in the announcement, farewell ICE vehicles, you stink!

…strategic plan to provide greater efficiencies as the brand focuses on the electrification of its portfolio over the next three years…

it is sad to see a q50 maybe ur only choice if you are after a brand new 2.0t RWD good quality sedan for below 40k. These infiniti cars are well built and rarely broken.

However consider the resale value seriously as few ppl would want a used of those. I am actually keen to get a Q60 Red sport if someone is selling a used for around 35k in the future

  • I'd love a QX80, beautiful looking cars and a great V8 engine. Infinitely better than a Landcruiser. Hope they go on clear out!

    • Infiniti =Lexus of course better than Landcruiser

  • +1

They brought some great looking cars. Their price point let them down. You can get into European cars for that sort of price tag.

  • They were huge in the US…A pity about here.
But perhaps these are great prices to snag them at.

  • +1

    Wouldn't mind a QX80 if it's another $20k off.
