Samsung SSD 860 QVO 4TB - $599 + Postage (Free Pickup) & $80 Samsung Cashback @ Online Computer

180

With the Samsung SSD cashback promotion expiring tomorrow (31/8/19), this Samsung MZ-76Q4T0BW appears to be the cheapest 4TB SATA SSD I can find online at $519 net cashback- and beats the recent eBay coupon deals too.

Delivery was $6 for me in Sydney, but they offer free click & collect from their store in Capitol Square (near Haymarket/Central Station).

Keep in mind the T&Cs of the cashback promo - no more than 3 claims per household, and 1 per product type.

Note: For those looking for the 2TB model, it's $288 less $35 cashback - refer to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/477076

Gone through it before, but I'll do it again:

860 QVO utilises QLC (slow writes and fast sequential reads) for its storage while also utilising a SLC cache (fast writes) of 78GB.

If you can sustain write the max write speed of 520MB/s to the 860 QVO you'll encounter a massive slowdown after writing 102GB of data as it'll slowdown to a write of 160MB/s.

Meaning, if you are writing to it from the internet (such as downloading games), you won't encounter the write slowdowns. If you don't do a lot of writing and deleting, you won't encounter the slower non-sequential reads on this SSD. Keep it between 10 to 15% free and it'll do most people just fine.

So this would be great as an external to an XBox One or PC if you are subscribed to the Game Pass and want them all downloaded to your console / PC.

Got a 2TB as my secondary drive, works great for games storage

      • Yeah, I think the 2TB is the preferable size for this drive. The speed difference between 1TB to 2TB is very noticeable but no benefit going from 2TB to 4TB other than size.

Limited SSD slots on case and cables - so trying to avoid wasting them :)

But I’m waiting for 4TB to drop to the $300-400 level first lol, or at least sub $500.

          • @jace88: I'm gonna throw one of these into an imac. Hoping this issue isn't a big one cause I couldn't seem to find a 4tb drive that wasn't a QVO version and they need the space for a ridiculous amount of raw images.

Surely better than a crappy old fusion drive…

            • @krunchymoses: If you have time, try to research a bit beforehand because IIRC there was a compatibility issue with some Macs and the 4TB QVO drives… I tried Googling but couldn't find the forums but I vaguely recall seeing something a while back about it.

              • @jace88: This is a very useful heads up, I will have a look. Cheers mate.

Got this to put all my games on instead of buying a 1TB every so often, works beautifully and there's so much space :)
