I have used PayPal for years and during that period I Knew you could use your card to do the transaction rather than PayPal exchange rates, as I have done this a while now I have saved heaps.
As my card is fee free overseas there is no extra charges and I get pretty much what xe.com show if not better.
If I try to pay from my end I'm normally given an option to enter what receiver gets and what I would pay, but if I check the amount receiver is to get in xe.com with PayPal it's much more.
I set up my paypal so it's card provider that pays and not PayPal with there poor exchange rate.
I'm buying an item from someone I know, normally it's retailers or business which invoice me with PayPal fees built in and whatever that amount is my card is used and is as said same if not better than xe.com.
As I'm buying from someone I know well infact I have two people I'm buying from so my first is asap and other in coming days. When I was playing around with my account at the amount I was owe seller on PayPal I tried as f&f and goods but I found I was getting tied into PayPal exchange but I wanted to use card.
Not sure what to do and best cheapest method for me I asked seller to send me two invoices one with xx in euros and to sent as f&f and another with 5% addded, obviously he will want the right amount.
He said he could not send an invoice as goods as its only for business he thinks?
So I clicked on his invoice for the amount he needs in euros and I see it gives me the options to pay as f&f or as goods as I know these people and sent payment before I'm happy to use f&f if it saves me money.
But the question is I if I pay as goods and as seller has not added 5% to the invoice he will not get the right amount correct? So him having added 5% he would have.
I see if I send as f&f I'm selecting my card and and PayPal wants a transaction fee of €11.64 added to this? Where does this come from? I know PayPal has to make money somewhere and I know with paying overseas as f&f we pay $5.99 extra so I'm confused why if I send as f&f where or what this is, as it's f&f then seller will get the right amount correct as requested? But if I decided to pay him as goods it does say it's seller would pay a fee which we don't want.
So I'm trying to figure out if I'm cheaper to pay as friends with this 11.84 fee or have him add 5% to the amount which I'm sure is 15 euro.
Or is there other methods to beat PayPal at there game?
I obviously get options using my bank account vs my card but I'm finding the fees with using my bank is 5.99 aud but when you go to the page to pay it shows with transaction fee in aud which works out more than if I use my card with he 11.64 added.
I not followed right through to end incase what I select is charged but to me as F&f even with fee of 11.64 euro vs 5.99aud with bank and going by xe.com I'm cheaper not to use bank.
Obviously other option is to ask seller to add 5% more added onto the amount he needs but as mentioned this probably is more.
Hope this makes sense. Once I have worked this out I know better with next purchase what to pick. Thanks
tl;dr?
