I just picked up my second (I have the wolf grey version) and wanted the black as it'd be more appropriate for work and will turn my other into an emergency bag.

This is a smaller bag 23L & narrow but really expands to fit a lot in. I've used it travelling with a heap of camera gear, for work and grocery runs.

One thing to note is that this bag does not have a laptop compartment but it can fit my razer blade 15 in it snugly if you want to compare to see if your laptop will fit, just put it in a cheap neoprene case or something to protect it from scratches.

If you're looking for a bag that is going to be good for travel, extremely durable and isn't massive, this is a great pick for a pretty good price. RRP: around $309.95 from local AU sellers.

Also for those interested - this is the bag that Bucky - The Winter Soldier - used in Captain America: Civil War (colour was the wolf grey)

    Way OverPriced, IMO

…eg, vs several of AliExpress's vendors' listings,
& the latter vendors offer multiple colors & patterns
    incl Camo)

    • The durability of Maxpedition will be a lot better. Some of the designs you see on Aliexpress are copied from Maxpedition

  • On the fence. Need a good light bag for overseas travel. Didn't plan on something like this but seems like it might suit. Few quality concerns after reading some reviews though, and the straps everywhere look like they'd be a pain if you didn't really need them all done up.

I have the bag and there is no quality issues with mine, best bag I've bought and I've bought a lot!
With the straps, I just tend to tuck them or use a black rubber band to fold them

  • Looks like a pretty average harness, back support + no ventilation. Sweaty back? I'll stick to my deuters.

    • Yeah the back system put me off. Plenty of good hiking daypacks out there with excellent ventilation systems, wouldn't want to go back to something like this.

  • How do these compare to Osprey bags quality wise? I’ve always used Osprey and they are awesome.

A lot of soldiers in the US use Maxpedition gear. That says a lot about their durability

I've got one of these. I've only used it for 'light duty' stuff - shopping and daybag etc.

    Upside:
    - Solid. Heavy duty material, good stitching.
    - Lots of pockets and organisation.
    - Fits a fair bit for it's size. It can be strapped down or expanded to fit more.

    Downside:
    - It screams military - With molle all over you look like a wannabe soldier.
    - It's heavy for a backpack - with thick stiff material, straps, pockets and molle - it's pretty heavy even empty.
Compared to a Osprey etc backpack - it's a lump.

Mostly, i prefer a lighter weight backpack with less organisation options and to look a little less like a weekend warrior.

I like Camelbak backpacks - light, good ventilation, well made and can last for years. Probably not as long as the Maxpedition backpack but long enough.

  • Hey OP, do you have a recommended Camelbak for this backpack?
