        • Not true according to thread where this plan first came in. But you need to call staff to extend the expiry, can't do it any other way

          • @justtoreply: Had a live chat with Boost and also called their support number.
They cannot transfer credit from 1 sim to another.
Telstra customers will need to port out to a non-Testra service and then port into Boost using the discounted SIM kit.

        • If your a Boost Customer just buy $150 online one easier , ok $10 more but you don't have to buy a new sim or port out. You will only need to recharge using this link: https://recharge.boost.com.au/boost-recharge/spring/main?exe…

Then choose the $150 to recharge. From there you will automatically have the 80gb for 12 months.

I got this from the last deal from Coles, it's brilliant.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/452198

Works out to be $11.25 per month which includes 6.67GB data, as well as international calls. Reception is pretty good for me as I am mostly either in the CBD or home which has good coverage.

    Excellent value!

    • Yup me too, got it for myself and the wife. In 4 months Ive only used 12 GB of data so still have 68 GB left for next 8 months…

Speed tests are around 200 Mbit - so 2.5 times higher than my home NBN (~80 Mbit)

      • +2

Not long to go, till we get 120GB for 12 Months for $120.

And the reception off Boost is one of the best, and LTE-4G+ is fast enough for most people. So combine that with a $380 phone (eg Moto G7 Plus) and $500/year is enough for most people.

        • When does $120 12month come out? 120GB, that why I'm undecided if i should get 12months incase that comes or similiar.

          • @Koalabeer: Don't hesitate, just get this.
4G-LTE plans are going to get much cheaper in the next 3 years, as the marketing is going to make it look like cheap/3G, and we get "Proper 5G Network" rolling out. But be on the lookout for 5G around 2022… because it might be affordable enough to replace your Home Unlimited NBN-100.

    • resolved.

    • +7

      Horses for courses.

I used 12GB total last 12mths,and got 15GB total for this 12mths. WiFi, grown-up, self control.

        • How else would I use data.
Smart phone, and smart data usage.

  • Does this count as gift card or mobile recharge? There's spend $140 get 2800 points offer , but mobile recharge is excluded. You can't use wish card to pay gift card either.

    • +1

It's neither a gift card or a recharge. It is a SIM starter kit. It's a SIM card with credit which is tied to the SIM card activation. You can not use it as a recharge voucher. If that 2800 points applies only to gift cards then this is excluded since it's not a gift card.

      • Excluding gift card and recharge voucher purchase.

Yes this is a sim starter kit, but I think it is categorized as a recharge voucher in the points system view

  • -4

Need something for like 20gb of data a month.

    • +3

      Thanks for sharing.

      • Thanks for that! Anyone know if you can buy the $300 topup as a voucher in Coles/Woolies etc? And then maybe pay with discounted gift card? TIA

      • At that point though you could just go to the Aldi $25 month to month plan with 18Gb data and avoid the 12 month commitment. I suppose the network coverage is different though.

    • +2

Very helpful thanks for the contribution

    • Yeah, they should give me more stuff for free. When the plan comes with a hot tub and a masseuse for my $140, I'm in - till then, no deal, this is ozbargain!

    • Was going to suggest this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/453211 then realised it's twice that amount of data for < $5, so no good. :-(

  • +1

If you are short of data , get the Kogan $4.9 for 40GB last for a month?Put into 2nd Sim tray, or use a old phone as hotspot. There's $14.96 for a 10000 mAh Xiaomi power bank recently…

    • -1

My 2nd sik slot has my work Sim. Two phones sucks.

      • +2

Use a 4G modem with battery built in?

      • +4

        My 2nd sik slot

        Is it fully sik?

    • On the Kogan page it says the voucher expires at the end of October… I'm guessing this promotion is ending soon, and that 40gb won't be usable when you're getting to the end of this 12 month period.

      • Not entirely sure what you're saying there, but Kogan extends those expiry dates about 3-4 weeks out from that date.

        That is:

        • The Kogan SIM you buy today must be activated before that date at the end of October.
        • About 3-4 weeks before that date, Kogan will update the page, adding a few months.
        • SIMs purchased BEFORE the date was changed, must still be activated before that date.
        • SIMs purchased AFTER the date is changed, must be activated before the NEW expiry date.

In other words, you just buy a SIM when you need it. About 7-10 days before you need it actually, unless you already have a blank SIM - it takes that long to arrive in the mail.

        • Ah ok. Didn't know about the whole updating thing.

  • Sorry for the noob question, but if I wanted to port across from Optus, is it possible to keep your existing number?

  • +4

I love this deal but I can't help but think I got better coverage with Aldi on the Telstra wholesale network, doesn't make sense but I get quite a few dropped calls direct with Telstra…

    • +2

Funny you say that but I heard similar from a friend who used both living in the country. There might be something to it for some areas, we are dealing with Telstra after all ( never fully trust them ) lol.

      • +1

Get a Blue Tick phone for regional areas

        • Got multiple unlocked phones with all the required bands for Telstra and some with the "Blue Tick" and they vary/fluctuate depending on time, place and how you hold it and scratch your face.

Often the blue tick or even having B28 does not always make a difference, on the other hand an external antenna like on some older blue tick phones ( that was required to get a blue tick, external port ) on a phone or modem can really make a marked difference.

  • This looks like it’s a sim pack where the recharge is tied to the new sim upon activation.

As opposed to the previous couple of Coles deals which was the $150 recharge voucher at a discount + the $2 sim for free which you could just turf if you were an existing customer.

So existing customers wanting to get a cheap recharge could be out of luck unless you can be bothered to port out and then back in.

  • Would porting from belong to Boost work?

    • +3

Yep, just ported from Belong to Boost yesterday. Works just fine.

      • +2

        Thanks

      • +2

I ported my wife back to Boost from Belong using the deal from Coles last month which was also the $150 recharge for $140. I had to get onto Boost a couple of days later to find out why VoLTE (Voice over 4G) still wasn't working and get them to manually switch it on. Seems that when you go to Belong they make sure to turn off VoLTE being the basic, no bells and whistles arm of Telstra that they are.

        • -1

I ported my wife back to Boost

I saw that episode on Star Trek.

    • :) buttttt it's enough for emergency use.

    • Enough for my mother in law to make a lot of international whats app video calls per month over 12 months. She likes to talk.

      • How much data do WhatsApp videos use?

        • Depends on how long you talk as you don't have any control over the resolution.

      • You moved overseas so your mother in law had to make whatsapp calls? Well done.

        • Or did he send her overseas?

    • +2

      Learn to budget/spend better.

  • Can this be used as a data SIM for a 4G dongle?

    • If you'd like to use a data sim then this might not be the deal for you. Might as well go for the Kogan's $5/mon data sim if you're just going to be using it for data.

    • Not sure why you would, because using it that way implies you plan to use more than just 6.67GB of data per month over 12 months, maybe you have a specific reason for wanting so little data - but the answer is yes. Btw… there's no reason any telco SIM with some data wouldn't work that way, as long as it's not something like that 12/1 Optus home wireless broadband plan that comes with that dumb modem/router programmed to work only with that ONE sim inserted.

  • Which is the cheapest unlocked phone? Only need it for calls/text?

    • I think you can get $30 to $100 phones from super markets.

  • +2

If you buy this, is there a time limit before you have to activate it?

    • I had this exact question last time and boost said there isn't a time limit. I actually transferred my number over from Optus and used the $2 boost sim for 8 months without ever recharging it.

    • As said above, the pack will have an expiry printed on it.

  • Oh no! I'm waiting for this one.
But I bought $40 boost sim yesterday!!
If I buy this one can I use recharge after my plan?

Thanks I confuse someone can or can't

    • Yeah you can, this isn't just for new customers. I bought a $2 boost sim card then just used the boost app on my phone to recharge for $150 (normal price for this deal).

  • +1

Does this plan includes standard voice mail (not the 10 sec voice to text service like Belong)? Thanks

    • You'll get a quicker answer using the live chat on the boost mobile website, they have good support.

    • Yes. You get Telstra 101

      • Thanks

  • +2

Grabbed this last time it was on here and I've have had no problems at all, the reception is great (it's Telstra), internet is fast and the support is really good through live chat too. I did a bunch of research and this really can't be beat. I was previously paying $70 a month before this and now only $150 for a whole year!

  • I'm with boost have been for a few years now, they tried me to start there new payment which I'm sure was more expensive and slightly less days, this is me topping up each month. I pay $20 per month and I only get 100 mins possibly umlimited txt and I'm sure 1gb per month. This would be such a better deal. Wife uses amaysim which is just as bad.
I noticed a similar deal like this a while back at Coles was tempted but never bothered.
I would find the international calls handy but then saying that I have world subscription with PayPal.
If getting something like this can you get this by using egift card? Is this just a voucher where I just add to my already SIM card and I'm good to go? Or does this mean I need to use a new sim? I really need my mobile number can it be used with this?
I find at times my 100 mins don't last and pending where or what I'm doing or my wifi drops signal at home and I eat into my date I can be close to or run out of 1gb. I know on weekends I get extra free with boost. So spreading 80gb over 12 months would be good. I'm not so keen on spending upfront theirs amount for phone usage but least it's done and dusted no more $20 per month and wife I think same if not just over.

    • +1

If you already have a boost sim card and a smart phone you can just recharge it using the app for $150 or you can buy this for $140 and use your existing sim card, the deal isn't just for new customers. When I got it I just went and got a $2 boost sim then transferred my number from Optus to Boost then recharged using the app. Their service is really good.

      Hope that helps.

      • Yes I have boost sim wife has amaysim, so for me if I got this I just buy and it's a voucher and I'm done no messing around with SIM cards? Obviously $140 is cheaper so would rather I took that option but can you buy it with an egift card with further 5% off.
Was Coles not cheaper again at $130 has it been this price since,as could hold off until it's $130 again.

Obviously if wife is looking looking for same then she would need sim do they charge for a sim whatna cheek these should be free lol.
And obviously she gets this deal or waits till next coles or whoever $130 deal.

If she has to change sims how does she move it over to boost.

        • If you are already with boost then Yep just think of this as a recharge voucher.

No idea about using gift cards, you'd have to give Big W a call and find out.

I haven't seen the deal for $130 for boost, I've seen $135 but only once.
The $140 special has only happened 2 or 3 times this year, it's not consistently on special.

Transferring your wife's number is super easy, you just need a boost sim card (which you get with this deal) and then just call Boost Mobile and tell them you want to transfer your amaysim number to them and they will guide you through the rest of the process, you basically just provide the info they need and they do everything on their end, it's a 10 minute phone call nothing complicated. The transfer will take a couple of days and then your wife's number will be with Boost on the new sim card you purchased.

        • Pretty sure the lowest was $140 that was easily attainable. They might have been lower but it was limited stock etc.

I mean it not bad deal at 150 dollars. It just a better if you can get it for cheaper.

      • I just joined boost 2 months ago. If I buy this and recharge, will it stack? Meaning I don't have to recharge till 22 months later?

        • As far as I know the boost prepaid vouchers/plans don't stack they just replace and overwrite what you have already and the max you can have prepaid is 12 months.

Hoping somebody will prove me wrong as I really want a super long term prepaid plan with this much good value for both local and international calls and text and some decent data at least above 4 to 5 gigabytes per month.

    • You said that you have been with Boost for a few years. Prior to January 21st 2013 Boost used the Optus network before changing to Telstra and $20/month for only 100mins & 1Gb doesn't sound like any plan Boost has now. I would give Boost a call to clarify as it may not be as simple as adding credit using a voucher.

      • Not had boost that long its with telstra im $20 a month is what it used to be prior to them changing a year or two ago.
So not sure what you mean

        • You might want to have a look on the Boost Mobile website to see if there are better options to the plan you have now. I put my son onto the $20/month plan last year and that provides unlimited calls and texts, 5Gb data per 28 days and unlimited calls/texts to 20 selected countries. The un-used data rolls over at the end of the month. I'd happily put him on the 80Gb/365 day plan which is the subject of this thread but he couldn't be trusted to not blow all 80Gb in a month. Also if you pay by direct debit you can nominate a particular date for payment which ensures that you get a full month not just 28 days.

    • Compared to what?

      • 30c cone at Maccas.

        • up to 70c
;( just got oneyesterday… hope hj has not matched yet

      • No sim.

      • -1

        Telstra $200 200GB 12m

        • +1

          Thats $60 more.

          • -4

@Borg: and 120GB more; try doing the math per $/GB

            • +1

@tempura: Irrelevant if you don't need the extra data.

            • +1

@tempura: …..and $60 more hence not apples for apples. Who cares if its 120GB more.
For me and many people I know, 80GB is more than enough for general, email, Browsing, Google Maps etc. Not everyong needs massive amount of mobile data and in particular many business clients don't require more than a couple of GB pre month. In turn this deal is excellent especially with Intl'l calls (incl mobiles) to many countries included.

              • @Borg:

In turn this deal is excellent especially with Intl'l calls (incl mobiles) to many countries included.

and Telstra has this too, so not sure why you need to highlight it as if it's an extra that Telstra does not have.

        • +2

          Where is this available?

        • I can't see this plan on Telstra's site… There's a 150gb for $300 for 12 months.

  • Great deal.

  • +1

Do you get 80GB for the whole year to use or 6.66GB per month, meaning if you don't use the total 6.66GB in a month, will it roll over to the next month? Or if you use more than 6.66GB per month, you will need to use less next month as long as it's less than 80GB per year to not get penalized?

    • +2

It's one lump of 80G. No monthly rationing involved

    • Is there a way to know what gb you used or what would be left im curious?

      • They have an app that shows usage and remaining in basically real time (maybe a couple of hours delayed)
