Harvey Norman Won't Price Match with Competitor eBay Stores?

Today, I was informed that Harvey Norman did not price match with competitors' eBay stores despite passing it's exclusion criteria.

What are the exclusions?

  • Offers which include cash back, bonus, bulk purchase, quantity limits or packages.
  • Pricing with included delivery or installation.
  • Offers not available to the general public - including trade, special event, club or membership offers.
  • Clearance, seconds, refurbished, ex-demonstration or display products.
  • Products shipped from or sold by third-party sellers on marketplace, auction or classifieds websites.
  • Products supplied through unauthorised distributors (known as 'grey market' items) or delivered directly to customers from an overseas distributor.
  • Pricing errors.
  • Products with pricing set significantly lower than the recommended retail price or market value.

Tried to price match a washing machine that I priced 3 days ago from the store. The price that I was comparing was from a leading Australian retailers, i.e Bing Lee, JBHIFI, and Good Guys.

I feel that it fell under this -

    • Products shipped from or sold by third-party sellers on marketplace, auction or classifieds websites.

Since technically eBay is a marketplace in my opinion

Guess it is a really fine line since Harvey Norman themselves had an eBay store.

      • Who was the eBay seller?

This, given most of the stores(leading australian retailers) have the same price on eBay and their own online store. Unless it was a price with a % off code.

Support the retailer with the cheapest price to begin with.

no, you are just reading the t & c to suit yourself rather accepting you are asking for something you are not entitled to

Yeah - their store would be the "third-party seller on marketplace…"

Makes sense, selling via these methods allows for cheaper prices.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

Another price match whine post [sigh].

Why do people price match? Unless they are offering a price beat or it saves you a shitload of fuel, just buy it at the place that offers the best price…

And (fropanity) Hardly Normal and (fropanity) Gerry Harvey. If they were selling the last device on this planet that could keep me alive, I'd sooner die than to give that grubby (fropanity) any of my money.

I was about to say the same thing. Give your money to the place offering the best price. Wasting effort at another store just to get the same price.

    • Why do people price match?

100% agree. People fail to see that by not supporting the store that was 'cheaper' up front in the first place, these cheaper stores will all disappear and then all you're left with are the RRP stores people use to price match against.

      • Only reason I could think of would be if you were given a gift card for a birthday or similar. I know if it was for a store I didn't favour I'd try and price match.

  • Tried to price match a washing machine that I priced 3 days ago from the store. The price that I was comparing was from a leading Australian retailers, i.e Bing Lee, JBHIFI, and Good Guys.

Are you trying to price match a 20% off price?

If its a major retailer, then why not price match to the main website instead?

  • They don’t have to

  • Some washing machines are on sale now with free delivery, installation, etc. @ HN. It falls in first exlcusion "offer with bonus".

I am interested in knowing which model you are talking about.
