Suggestions of PC Parts on New PC Build

Hey, I need advice on mainly what CPU and GPU I should get for my current PC build.

So far i have x470 Aorus gaming Mobo
Inwin 805 case
650 gold corsair PSU

I'm looking between the Ryzen 5 2600x vs the Ryzen 7 2700 but honestly open to any CPU at this point.
As for GPU, I'm lost as to what to even consider purchasing.

Mainly looking to use it for uni and lightish gaming.

SSD, HDD and RAM are pretty straight forward items to get so am not too stressed about that.

Any help of choices for a CPU and GPU would be greatly appreciated (preferably one with a solid deal as of right now).

  • Whats your budget? Look on the second hand markets, as people want to sell their CPU and GPU (something that will suit your mobo and requirements well) to upgrade to the newer ryzen and amd cards.

    • around 700 for both cpu and gpu combined

I'd go with the 3600, 3rd generation Ryzen is far better than 2nd generation, especially for games. Take your remaining budget and buy the best GPU you can buy.

  • I'm not too savvy with pc hardware. Check out this site to compare all your parts or something you've missed.

The link gets tossed around alot on here so it should be useful.

Unsure of your budget, but for the GPU, if you're doing light gaming, I'd recommend a GTX 1050 Ti. Can be had for under $250 or can find on second hand market for cheaper.

Or the Rx 570 is apparently good too. Can be bought from Amazon AU for $209 (MSY).

If you want better performance / future proofing you can get a GTX 1650 for around $250.

If I was to recommend one I'd say get the GTX 1660. You'll be good for most games at 60fps if you mess around with the graphics settings, and you'll be good for most games that will come out in the next few years too. But that's more around the $350+ price range.

As for the CPU, I have a second hand R5 2600 (non x version) and I use that for TAFE work and general Web browsing, moderate gaming and light photo editing. Also some FL Studio work here and there. It hasn't skipped a beat yet. If you plan to get into any video editing or stuff like that in the future, I'd recommend getting a beefier CPU, otherwise either of those are good for what you're doing (provided you find them cheaper than the third gen Ryzen chips).

Ryzen 3600, can be had for around $280. GPU, go for a used RX 580 8GB for around $200.

580 over 1050ti for sure. I've had both and the 580 was a significant boost.

      for OP; 3600 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478447
      RX 580 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-Aorus-Radeon-Rx580-8GB-…

Edit: Note, the only problem is the X470 motherboard does not support the Ryzen 3600 out of the box and requires the bios to be updated (requires ryzen 1000/2000 series). So maybe, for ease, the 2600/x will suffice (and at a later stage, you can update to the 3600 or whatever if required).

      • sounds like ex mining cards

Nothing wrong with that. Ex-mining cards are generally well-looked after in my experience.

          • @beaver2233: Yup. Stable load, no stressors, sometimes even underclocked to save power.

I think buy the computer with the inbuilt gpu and have a play and then you can add another gpu in top for more powerful games
