28degrees Price Protection Question with Apple online purchases

Hey Guys,

I just applied for the 28degrees card for the price protection.

I was looking to buy a macbook pro with 32gb of memory (not the standard 16gb) and want to claim money back in a year when its most likely has depreciated in value.

I was looking to use the apple store online to buy the new laptop and then in a year get a screenshot of the same laptop with 32gb with most likely a cheaper price.

However when I look now I can only see 2 versions of the macbook (I assume one is the older version) so if I buy the cheaper version now, I will not be able to claim anything in a years time?

Anyone have any experience in knowing what apple puts on their website in terms of the macbooks that are available?

Does anyone have any experience claiming on a laptop via the apple online store?

  • I'm confused what you are trying to achieve? Your buy the macbook now for $1000, you see it on sale from somewhere else at a later date within the qualifying period for $750 and you contact 28 degrees to make the claim.

    Why do you need screenshots?

    • Most importantly because I dont know of any other retailers that offer a 32gb version of the macbook pro

13" or 16? betetr get claiming son

If you can search the SKU number normally samed configged, 28D can be any retailer in Oz with AU website too

    Few things to consider:
if the SAME notebook is sold in the same config in a years time it is UNLIKLEY to have dropped in price as apple tend to only change pricing if the update the models/specs or on super rare occasions (like recently due to significant SSD price drops)

when Apple makes changes to their notebook range and changes specs (even slightly) they give it a new model number
this means in a years time the notebook while the "same" will technically not be the same device and as such 28 Degrees can argue against price protection.

A friend got caught out, the only change apple made to the unit was increased the "standard Ram" but as it had a new model number the price protection was not honoured.

    • Thank you so much for a clear explanation, that was what I was worried about.

So essentially you dont think they will keep selling the macbook pro (with a certain spec set) that they have on their website now in a years time. Or if they do it would not have dropped in price.

      Is that a correct summary?

      • If they are still selling it in a years time itโ€™s unlikely but not impossible the pit would drop. If they made any spec changes or it changed its position in the lineup for any reason they would also change the model number this would make protection claim difficult.

  • Does 28degrees price protection work for all purchases? That's crazy, because 12 months is a long time in the tech world.

It has quite a large range, no online services, jewelry, watches, 2nd hand stuff or consumables. I use the Coles Mastercard PP for EB Games and make a note to check the price in 2 years. Usually get about 70%+ back ๐Ÿ˜

      • Nice. I need this.

Yeah price protection is really worth it as far as I can see, unfortunately the coles one is no longer available.

There is a 28 degrees card and a GO? card or something that are really similar

You need to call lattitude financial to add the price protection feature to your card but they don't provide any more to new 28 degrees cardholder.

      • Thanks for the heads up. That's a shame.
