My grandpa left me many bottles of various different whiskies, brandy and cognac. How do I go about selling these at 30-50% off RRP? Some are rare bottles of Whisky still boxed and some in crystal bottles all new and unopened. Are there places I can sell these off to? I dont want to go down the selling to friends path. I do have an inventory list.

Definitely this. Nothing wrong with posting your inventory list, pics of the inventory and asking others what they think it is worth.
You need to establish whether you're holding a $1,000 or $10,000+ collection to decide the right path.
In Vic you can get a temporary limited liquor license and go the eBay route. (Some people sell on eBay wwithout license, which is illegal).
Temp License…. Ill check that out and thank you so much!
Yeah I applied for one a few years ago, was relatively easy. Pretty sure you needed an RSA though, but you set the dates and what not. With rares stuff I had a lot of overseas interest but not a lot of local interest. May also be worth heading into a privately owned boutique bottle shop as they know their clients and would probably have some on speed dial for interesting stock.
How many bottles are we talking?
Good to know! Thanks for the tip Soluble!
There must be some kind of specific forum for that kind of thing, sell privately to the other members.
There are booze auctioneers in every state where you can unload the entire collection and they will auction it off for you
I'm interested in your inventory list.
You might want to do a valuation if you think there could be some rare bottles.
Easy way is to search for previous action prices.
have a look at : www.langtons.com.auThere's a lot of money in whiskey collecting these days. A LOT. Do your research son. I'm sure it would apply to other spirits too.
That's the spirit!
I reckon he should give it a shot.
Maybe he should just butt chugg it all.
I’m interested in your list and Melbourne base. Please let me know how you want to proceed.
If we're talking $10,000's and there's actual rare items you may find it worth going through an auctioneer. You'll save a lot of time and money.
If it's just 4 digits then you have to consider
1. Liquor licence and sell individually and the time involved; or
2. Find a "private buyer" for the lot.Depends how much you have, but you could investigate selling on Greys Online.
I had a similar issue when dad died. 36 bottles of whiskey (which i don't drink) and numerous other bottles that I do.
I tried to sell n eBay and had the listings cancelled.
Tried to sell to a bottle shop and it was too hard for them without ABN, licence, etc.So I kept what i liked and gave most of the whisky to friends. Some of it was "good" and some was cheap Johnny Red type stuff. I'm not sure why he had so much as he was tea-total for the last 20 years of his life.
I'd compare with prices on Nicks, Dans, Whisky Exchange, Masters of Malt and The Whisky List if they are fairly common and not vintage/super rare.
You could try to sell on Gumtree/Facebook Marketplace too. Not sure of the legalities though.
If they are collectible, they appreciate in value, why would you want to sell them for 30-50% rrp ? Treat it as an investment, and try to get the best possible prices, im sure your deceased grandpa wouldnt appreciate you basically giving away what he wanted you to inherit.
Would be keen to have a look at your inventory list and potentially buy some. I'm Melbourne based as well.
Can't PM you, so PM me if you're interested.
Do not drink a drop. I'm contesting that will.
Did somebody say Whisky? Yum, I’m interested. Everyone says the older whisky tastes better than the current so if you want to sell privately … 😋
I have a sizable whisky collection and would be interested in seeing what you've got and buying on the spot if you've got anything I like - I can't message you so send me a message . Cheers
