Will I need to upgrade/ signup a 5G plan when it comes? Or just change my phone?

Currently still on Telstra contract , 15 months left with 333 early end fee.

So when 5G coverage comes to my area, do I have to upgrade my plan/ change it to a 5G plan?

Or just change to a 5G phone will do me 5G?

By the way, in China 4G used to be 200Mb/75Mb down up. Now a lot of them have been limited to 100Mb download, to get you into a much expensive 5G plan. So you can use something like 250Mb download speed average… business

    What will you do you cant already do now on 4G? Except use more data. The average Joe won't pay $15 for it.

    • You can watch porn faster…

      • The speed difference between 4G and 5G isn't going to affect streaming.

          Eh ? Course it will, you will be able to get 4k content, less buffering. The experience will just be better.

          • @hotukdeals: LTE is rated at 150Mbps and 300Mbps. 4K streaming is estimated at 25Mbps.

            Sony is the only smartphone manufacturer that sells 4K handsets while the most common mobile resolution in Australia is ~1/3 of 4K.

    • Kill all the neighbourhood bees?

  • Lets see if we will get faster 4G speed since it will be less crowded on the 4G lane? Or it will be the same since it looks like we are already throttled? Or slower, throttle a bit more gradually to drive you into 5G

    • The 5G speeds might surpass that of NBN (100Mbps).

      So I suggest that could be a reason to get rid of your Home Internet, and pay the extra for 5G connection… if the price difference is worth it and there's enough Data Allowance (Monthly 50GB, or 200GB, or 1TB, or Unlimited).
      For instance;
      - 2019 $150 per month = $99/month (Unlimited NBN-100) + $49/month (10GB 4G+LTE)
      - 2022 $150 per month = $0 (Home Internet) + $149/month (5G, 450GB then slow-down)

      …there might be option to share Data on second SIM, just stick into a Home SIM-Modem, and use on TV/Laptop Wifi

  • You don’t have to do anything. If you want 5G you’ll need to pay extra for a suitable plan and purchase a 5G enabled phone.
