Half Face Helmet for CAMS track day. Options.

Need a half face helmet for a track event. Found this one, but really don't want to spend that much given I also have to pay for the track day. Which after it I may not do again.

Any one know alternative suppliers. Would want to try it before buying it to make sure it fits comfortably.

Half face helmet = you'll only have half a face after you come off

Should be fine in a car. The windscreen will capture most of my facial parts.

  • I got a Bell mag 1. Looks the same but with Hans attachment points.

If you're going for one day thing, this one will do, or just loan a helmet from a buddy with a big head and a motorcycle.

    • The Bell are similar, but even more than the one I was looking at. No mate to lend be one unfortunately. Have looked on Gumtree and nothing. The event isn't till December, but worth sorting equipment out before going.

    • @tshow What about this one? https://www.murraymotorsport.com/club-j1-helmet. I just need to check with supplier its CAMS schedule D compliant. AS1698-1881

      • If it meets the rule requirement, that's all you're going for.

The more you pay, the more bells and whistles, lower weight, and thinner shell.

Wouldn't renting one be the more OzBargain thing to do? If it's just one day… if you like it and want to do it again, buy one.

    • Will look into that, but don't know we'd who does hiring.

The track could quite possibly have some to hire.

  • Check with what the track requires. Look it up on the CAMS website. I know for some motorsports, you need a nomex or fire resistant liner. But most Aus. Standard stamped helmets should be more than enough for your average track days.

My pick, Arai GP-J3. Probably overkill for track days though…

    • I second the Arai GP-J3. It fits just right and is lightweight.

  • You may want to invest in 2 higher quality lightweight helmets if it's going to be a regular thing. A full face and an open face helmet. A full face helmet obviously offers better protection, but it can get pretty stuffy on long warm days. I use my open face helmet more often especially for full day events on warmer days or if I feel like listening to what's happening around me more https://raceline-racewear.com.au/sparco-sky-rj-7-carbon-open…. Lightweight and comfortable fit. A heavy ill-fitting helmet would wear you down pretty quickly.

Motorcycle helmet that meets Australian Standards is all that is required. Duck down to your local motorcycle store and check out their gear. Or get an Aldi one if you can find stock.

Here you go, just saw someone post this Aldi deal, it has an open face helmet for $49.99
