I was looking for an electricity provider recently and I came across ReAmped Energy. With changes in discount structures and plans across the traditional electricity providers, ReAmped came out to be the cheapest one in my case when I compared though I had mostly been an Energy Australia customer when their discount slabs were higher. I was pleasantly surprised with the concept of ReAmped - compare it with ING of the banking world.
It doesn't have any inbound call centre so you don't need to call/ talk to anyone if you need a connection. There's a very short and simple form that you submit along with your ID and that's it - 5 mins job at max. No calls, no hold time, and no human interaction unless you need support or you have any questions - you can either chat with them or request a call back in that case. Above all, there's a very simple plan on offer with no misleading discount layers or promo offers - just a flat rate to keep it very simple. The onboarding experience definitely feels very refreshing for this particular industry - I highly recommend checking it out. Plus, if an existing customer refers you through a link, both referee and referrer get $50 credit when you join ReAmped.
Looked at them previously but two things turned me off:
1. They have a credit card surcharge - don't like it but could live with it.
2. Force you to pay monthly (bill smoothing). Bill smoothing is a scam that results in you always paying more than you should, earlier than you should, and that's a deal breaker for me.
So i ended up sticking with Alinta Energy which don't have a credit card surcharge, bill you quarterly, and are only marginally more expensive than ReAmped (in qld at least).
