15% off Macbook Air at HN@Domayne Alexandria

440

15% off Macbook Airs, definately a good deal as the most i've ever seen is 10%.
It is not on the HN website, as all harvey normans are seperatly franchised. However, you can probably get a price match at other stores that stock apple products if you call HN@Domayne Alexandria.
It excludes BTO machines, and only will stocks last.

11-inch: 64GB RRP: $1199 - 15% discount = $1019.15
11-inch: 128GB RRP: $1449 - 15% discount = $1231.65
13-inch: 128GB RRP: $1599 - 15% discount = $1359.15
13-inch: 246GB RRP: $1949 - 15% discount = $1656.65

Not bad, but there's a strong chance new MacBook Airs will be released in the next few weeks if not months. New MacBook Air will come with OS X Lion, and probably also Thunderbolt (http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/) as well as spec bumps.

i think you're on the money with that, but i'm not sure how i feel about thunderbolt - despite its benefits it's yet another connection standard :|

      • 'connection standard' would imply it's a standard

        • well if you read through the link on it above, and the way they speak of previously established "standards" in comparison eg USB 2/3, PCI express, firewire, displayport etc, this is being touted as the next best thing ie on its way to becoming some sort of standard..

@smigit below, for sure, i agree with you of course handy to have, its just that more than another interface/standard what the world needs now, is love, sweet love

          coughfirewirecough

      • Sure, but better to have it than to not when you want to use a device that requires it down the line

      • nice to see 15 percent off for once.

yeh they might put on thunderbolt on the next iteration. something that no one uses yet and then you have USB 3 where I can actually use right now but we probably won't see it on these things.

the world will explode before we get that and blu-ray on macs.

yep, and a Sandybridge Air will wiping the floor with these Core 2 Duos.

So unless you desperately want to save the couple of bucks, wait until the Sandybridge ones comes out.

    • lol i somehow read that url as "buyersremorse.macrumors.com"

Every single time an Apple offer is released there is a chorus "a new model is coming in X weeks (or months). Don't buy!" They're almost always wrong. I bought a cheap MacBook in January when there were many posts that a new model is coming any week now. Well, its been over 6 months and still there is no replacement model. Of course the "new model, wait!" crowd will eventually be right, it's just a matter of waiting up to 12 months.

      • From what I've experienced, MacRumors is usually on the money and you can count on September iPhones and March iPads.

An example of my 1, 3 and 5 calculations at work - top of the line macbook air is $1949 (stock, non customised).

          1. After the 15% off sale, you get it for $1656.65.
          2. Pay for it with discounted gift cards at about 10% off (i recently bought $2000 of HN gift cards from ebay for $1800) comes to $1490.96
          3. Claim GST on your way out of AU which is 10% off the price in step 1. subtract that from actual price paid in step 2. comes to $1490.96 - $150.61 = $1340.35
          4. Claim back $794 off the price on your invoice which shows the price in step 1, but subtract that amount from how much it has cost so far is step 3 price. comes yo $1340.35 - $794 = $546.35.
          5. Enjoy your $546.35 top of the line macbook air at an effective discount of 72% off RRP.

Maths wizzes feel free to clarify/correct, im not a number cruncher :)

        • also, if you are a uni student currently on Austudy, ABSTUDY or Youth allowance can also claim for the depreciation of the laptop if it is for 'study related purposes'. not to sure how much but you'll still get something back :)
          http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.aspx?menuid=0&doc=…

        • If you already claim GST on your way out of AU, how could you claim it again for point 3? I thought if you bring your laptop back, it must be declared for GST to be recollected again.

  • Edit: double post

  • +3

Wouldn't say it's good since it's reaching its life circle, and there will be some 10% off for new laptop

  • +2

    wow just got a mba 11 and 13 haggled for 10% off….like a couple hours ago, FML….

If I am not mistaken, the new airs will come with integrated Intel graphics only i.e they suck. Good luck trying to run SC2 or any decent games on it. The airs will definitely appeal if Apple still provide dedicated graphics with it. Well we'll see when they launch soon. Fingers crossed.

    • +1

Sandy Bridge integrated graphics is pretty good actually and it's not like the current 320M is a gaming level card anyway…if you want to play games dont buy a over-priced netbook buy a beast of a laptop or better still a desktop!!!

      • Looks like Intel HD3000 graphics is pretty close to 320M, provided it is running at full speed i.e standard voltage CPU. However, I suspect Apple may underclock them to increase battery life. For casual gamers, a 320M is all we need. I agree heavy gaming is best done on a desktop. Still, if the new refresh is not able to outperform or equal the older airs in graphics, I don't think it is a positive.

  • One month Stevie bags out netbooks as being a useless waste of space, next month Stevie brings out a 11" Macbook Air and proclaims it's greatness….

But in any case these are using technology that is two generations old so 15% off isn't anything to write home about. Wait for the newer Sandy Bridge models (or if in the market for the 11" save your pennies and get a dual cored Atom netbook)….

    • +1

uh a MacBook Air would be classified as an Ultraportable laptop. A netbook is a netbook. There's a huge difference, netbooks are SLOW as hell, while ultraportable laptops, although similar in size to a netbook, are still a laptop with some decent processing power.
I have to agree with Steve, netbooks are basically useless (there are one or two applications where I can see them being feasible), whereas ultraportables have their space and use.

      • +2

To be fair, this Macbook Air (quite old) is as slow as some of the new 'netbook' AMD Fusion parts. That is, in general, it plays games only about 20% faster than an E350 and same speed as the current intel integrated graphics. No slouch. But nowhere near the ultra-portables of today.

      • +2

I guess you've never used a netbook overseas/domestic travel or for photo/video storage when on a job. netbooks have never let me down.

mac book airs might be classed as ultra portables but they are no where near as fast as my ultra portable sony laptop.

Netbooks are cheaper overall and the macbook air is cheaper than my ultra portable. Comes down to your needs because I would never do any work on these current macbook airs that demanded processing/graphic speed nor on my atom based netbook (no gpu).

      • +1

Nothing wrong with the new dual core Atoms, they get the job done for web browsing and basic desktop publishing and to be honest they aren't that slow at all, but then again I dont expect to play the latest 3D games on it. At least netbooks still have a decent sized hard drives in them . Load a couple of movies on, your music collection aswell and 64GB is next to useless. The ULV C2Ds are pretty gutless and with an 11" screen its just as functional as a netbook. Like everything Apple though you are paying a significant premium to have that pretty lil Apple on the cover….

  • Went dick smith. They would not match this. Any bought any of this that can post receipt
