    Funny stuff.

    Uses QLC cells
    https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/storage-ssd-p1
The Crucial P1 SSD leverages the NVMe PCIe interface and Micron’s leading-edge QLC technology to deliver fast capacity for less.

    • Is QLC good or bad ?

      • +1

let me put it this way, Eddie
its cheaper for a reason ;)

        • And perfectly fine for standard PC use for storage

        • lol please the 1tb evo 860 sata (500MB/s) is $30 more expensive than this 2000MB/s nvme. And evo 970 plus is at least $150 more for 3000MB/s. Muh e-dik much?

          • -2

@jubjub69: more expensive because its more durable. Compare like with like.
If the Crucial is priced the same as Samsung, it'll still be on the shelves next year.

With cashback, 970 Evo about $100 dearer, faster, lasts longer … and its already sold out.
While your Crucial …. about 17 sold. lol.

400 sold from CA for the 970 evo, compared to 113 for the P1

also totally massacred in the benchmarks too. Hows that e-dik shrinkage?
            https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-970-Evo-Plus-N…

            • @payton: No mainly expensive because of Samsung. lol it's a popularity contest eh? You might sit all day doing benchmarks with a million writes. Most people wouldn't notice or care. 2 seconds of load time worth $120 bux and waiting 3 months for samsung cashback? lol.

I still use a 7yr old crucial m4 that's done 15000hrs and hasn't skipped a beat. I also have an 850 evo for 2 years that's superior in every way and is also solid.

Like saying I exclusively buy wd blacks and whoever gets reds at $100 cheaper are inferior. Very sad sweetie. Be careful of snapping your e-dik while benching. ;) daddy might pay for it though.

@jubjub69: hahaha, keep playing with cheap gutterball crap, and making assumptions. I pay for my own gear, son.
You're a niche outlier and the sales figures shows people do care what they use, and it ain't the product you're touting.

Even at a highly discounted price, its still not able to compete with a product $100 dearer in any way. Guess the price is still too expensive.

I just had to do some quick research on this for those that don’t know QLC (quad level cell) is one of the lower (lowest tier), comparatively it has worse writing, reading and endurance than triple, multi and single cells. With single cells being the best option. Thanks for sending me down this rabbit hole!

      • Is samsung best?

        • +1

The 970 evo plus is TLC (triple layer cell), evo pro is MLC (multi layer cell [2]). Both seem to rate really well

          • +1

@airupthere: The Samsung drives are generally seen as the best for performance and reliability. But these QLC drives are fine. Many benchmarks and reviews warn about the lower lifespan for writes on QLC, but their estimated max writes is well above what anyone would consider normal or even high.

If you are editing images or video and constantly writing to the drive, you have a specific need and generally know what you're looking for, this wouldn't be right for that use case.

But the majority of people, using this as a secondary drive, installing games or storing data on it to occasionally reference/read. The drive will be more that obsolete by the time you got remotely close to the max writes.

  • 81c is a lot of Razer phones.

Get a Crucial MX500 for $20 more or an extra $70 gets you the Adata SX8200 Pro which uses the same NAND as the Pro Evo (I think?)

    • +1

MX500 is not m.2 nvme :) its only m.2 sata that maxes out at 550mbps

      • -3

It isn't but it's a higher quality SSD and I'd take that over the P1. Just get the Adata and get the best of both worlds!

        • Ive only had 1 SSD ever die on my over the past years and it was a 250GB Samsung 850 Evo in a laptop

All the other plants that I've used have never had any issues.
SSD's last just as long as hard drives.. i wouldnt worry about write life on SSD's they run out of life as fast as hard drive motors die and stop spinning
