Hyper X Headsets on Sale - Cloud Alpha (Red) $135, Cloud II $115 @ JB Hi-Fi

121

Was keeping an eye on these headsets, and looks like they just came down in price to rival the sale they had on these last year.
Just picked up a pair of Alphas for $135. Sticker on the box still said $179.
Cloud II's are $115 also. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gaming-headset/hyperx-cloud-ii-gam…

I picked up a pair of these last year and they’ve been quite good except for the volume dial. It can be quite sensitive and depending on where it’s at audio will come out of the L or R can. As with most things in life, the sweetspot can be a little hard to find.

These are the best HyperX headsets. I use mine for gaming, music, movies. Comfort is great, build quality excellent, removable mic', replaceable cords, and sound stage is clear and balanced.

      +1 I love my Alphas.

      • +2 waiting for black friday hyperx 50% off sales to get another lol

    • I believe that was a manufacturing issue and it's since been resolved.

      • the HyperX AUS reps on Facebook tried to tell me its due to their 'anti-mould chip' lol, offered to replace the ear pads but not the top headband which smells also.

    • The smell eventually goes away, but does take a few weeks

They're great but you're better off getting the Coolmaster MH751/752 if you want a nicer mic and music quality for audio.

    • And if you don't need a mic, you're better off still getting the original Takstar Pro 82 v2 from Takstar's store on Aliexpress during one of the big sales (11.11 and Black Friday are coming up).

The Coolermasters sacrifice a bit of audio quality, and also you can't adjust the bass port.

I borrowed the pro 82 v2 from a mate, and I couldn't use them for longer than a few hours, also tried with music the high freq was painful, couldn't listen at a decent listening volume for more than 30 mins or so. So close to being really great though.

        • It was definitely this box with the 1.6m/5-foot cable?

Because it comes across like you're describing v1, with a white box and 2.2m/7-foot cable. The whole point of v2 was to clean things up in the highs for people who used less clean DAC/Amp sources and audio masters.

Cooler Master latched onto that, but boosted certain regions poorly. It's also possible you're quite sensitive to treble. No matter the case, thank you for the info! :)

@jasswolf: Don't have the box sorry, I borrowed them from a colleague as we use ALOT of headphones around work. Yes, I listen to music for about 8 hours a day, so if there is harsh treble that sounds metallic or tinny (like M50X etc) then I get fatigued very quickly. 100% it was second version as he bought the first and hated it haha.

            • @onlinepred: Huh. The technical analysis suggests it should be pretty much cleaned up, almost rolled off, and less of a crossover dip:

Regardless, I'll likely be playing around with foam cloth to tame them a little further if needed.

              • @jasswolf: Yep okay confirmed was the newer version with the shorter cable, mids and highs are very loud, and very fatiguing for me. Need a casual all day listener.

                • @onlinepred: I've read about modding it with thicker foam over the driver, which seems to have that effect, but it reads like you want something that's either rolled off with the treble, or way outside this price range.

The next step up in audio quality anywhere near this price are the OKCSC ZX1, the Bosshifi B8, and maybe the Tin Audio P1 if you want to try a top-quality IEM.

After that you're pushing towards Sennheiser HD 6XX series territory.

    • I tried the coolmaster, but the highs are way overdone I assume for voices in games. The mids and lows were also really average. I wouldn't rate them higher than the HyperX at all. Coolmaster might be better for voice driven games or games where you prioritise voice over sound range.

  • Is wireless version as good as this one?

  • They we're $114 last month.

  • These are standard prices… not deals. You can get Flight or the Arctis 7 on sale for slightly more than than this and get good quality wireless audio.

Cloud II was the standard recommendation until maybe late 2017, now it's just in the pack with everyone else. If you want good value and comfort at a better price and the microphone isn't a concern, just target the original OEMs that are the centrepiece of the current recommendations: the Takstar Pro 80 and 82.

Aliexpress sales will come up in November for those who want to squeeze the most out of their dollar, otherwise have a look for them on eBay. I recommend the Takstar Pro 82 v2, which is only available from Takstar's store on Aliexpress.

    • Thinking about picking up the HyperX Cloud Flight's myself. The $175 at JB seems like a good deal when I'm comparing it to Amazon & Ebay for $175?

      • Cheapest I've seen is around $140 including delivery, and each time that was via Amazon USA (either direct, or via a listing on Amazon AU).

$175 is decent, but if you're in no rush there will be better prices in mid-to-late November.

never forget how they finessed their way out of this price last year.

"we're all out of stock and won't be stocking this model in the future" is what i got from every store i visited only to see them back on shelves shortly after the sale was no longer on
