Claim Denied on Using Energy Comparison Sites on Cashrewards

Months ago, I switched to Alinta via Compare Energy and Gas via Cashrewards. My address was set up incorrectly by Alinta which was fixed immediately after I received the switch confirmation. My account number didn't change.

After the CR qualifying period has passed with no sign of the cashback, I contacted CR who then informed me that I was ineligible because I did not switch to Alinta and that CR did not get paid. I replied with a copy of my first electricity bill confirming that I have indeed switched to Alinta and have received no further correspondence since.

This is my first major problem with CR since I joined years ago.

    Don't basically all the cashback schemes require that you go through only them and not another intermediary? Because the end seller (in this case Alinta) generally will only pay one lot of commission on any one transaction, so in this case if the intermediary directly in contact with Alina is Compare E & G, then they'll be credited the transaction and get the commission.

      • Ah. Then I'm also stumped. Maybe CR is confused because OP told them he switched to Alinta, and not that he used Econnex?

          This will be the crux of it.

          Setup an account wrong. Account was cancelled, they've contacted them and it was set up again without the referral for the correct address.

          Not sure how you get your own address wrong but anyways.

    Hi kyle. Please PM me your CR email address and ticket number. I want to have a look at the correspondence and try to sort this out for you. I’m almost certain the issue is this:

    For the record, please know that CR does not decline transactions. We have no idea what goes on between customer and provider, so we can only take them at their word. Again, I will do my best. Thanks.

    Have you submitted a claim via the "My Click History" page? If so, just wait longer. If not, do it now.

  • Hi kyle. In short, and for transparency, Alinta has confirmed that you cancelled your original contract via Cashrewards due to an error with your address. You then proceeded to sign up to a new contract directly without going through Cashrewards. This obviously resulted in your initial transaction being declined. After a number of emails from Cashrewards, Alinta has agreed to pay you the $70 on this occasion as a gesture of good will. The funds are in your account and approved. Thank you.
