    Worth noting if you're in QLD they don't meet the legislated requirements for any home being sold from 2022 or occupied from 2027.

        If they're not on mains they need to have a 10 year sealed battery, this runs on AA's. They also need to be interconnected with each other, I'm not 100% sure on if the Nest's are directly connected either or just via wifi.

        You can get non-mains smoke alarms that are compliant eg:

        That said, if it's a new construction or you have ever had a wired alarm, you need to replace it with a wired alarm that from 2022/2027 will have to be able to be interconnected with all the others (one sounds, they all sound).
