Reclaiming Lost Qantas FF Points due to inactivity

My Qantas FF points have vanished from my account due to inactivity. Wondering if anyone has had any luck having them reinstated or if I need to just forget about them.

  • Honestly not sure how many points. Could have been around 20,000 so nothing crazy and probably about 12 months ago…

  • Many years ago we managed to claw back, roughly, 250,000 frequent flyer points back from Qantas. However, this was due to us, finally, noticing they had stopped notifying us when the expiry date was. It took 6 months to get them to cave and they were still pretty shirty with us. Somebody mentioned you might be able to get them to reinstate if you buy something, with reasonable point value, from the Qantas shop. Give them a ring and beg for forgiveness and find out your options.

        Get onto the Qantas health app. You add points every day you reach the step rate level, so it won’t expire.

        • Good pointer, I just added another thing that will do points on it every so often so I don’t have to think about it again.

          You need an active qantas insurance policy

          • @modsec802: No you don't, you can still get a small number of points if you don't have a policy.

          • @modsec802: I don’t have an insurance policy. It means the points are small but it keeps ticking over.

  • All you need to do is have activity on your account. It can be the wellness app, woolies, credit card points etc etc

  • Thanks for all the pointers. I'm fine with not losing them again. It more getting back the ones I lost I was wanting to know about.

    • If you call them, they will generally agree to reinstate them on some sort of condition (eg take one flight with Qantas within 6 months or purchase one item through the Qantas Store within 3 months).

  • The most recent I've read is the 'Points Challenge' where they'll re-instate your full balance if you earn X amount of points from two different sources. Need to call up and ask.

  • I just called, I was asked if I had taken flight within the last 12 months, I said yes, they took the details and told me the points will be reinstated within 2 - 4 weeks. IT WAS SO EASY! I am still shocked!

    • Great outcome. It is always worth the phone call. Now download that App and start walking so you don’t have this issue again. You can also link Woolworths points to your Qantas FF program.

      It is why they tell people to keep their boarding passes as proof of flight. Sometimes the points don’t get attached to your FF account.

    • easy as you had unclaimed points, not so easy with inactivity.
