Car Hit by Garbage Truck

Went out to my car this morning, and found a note asking to contact Mastec Australia regarding an incident. Gave it a quick search and they seem to be responsible for operating garbage trucks.

I’m yet to contact them, but thought I’d ask for any similar experiences. In particular, whether I would need to fully inspect my car for damage prior to calling, or if this is something the driver lodges when it happens?

Thanks in advance

Don't really need to do it prior to calling, but I'd do a walk-around and take close-up photos of all the damage. It'll be processed like a normal insurance claim, they tell you to get it assessed (either somewhere they choose or wherever you want), they get the bill for it, and their insurer pays.

contact them they will fix your car it that easy.

  • Thanks for the fast responses.

Busy at work so haven’t had a chance to give it a look over - was hoping to call without needing to do it but, in reality, I should do it anyway.

    • You can definitely give them a call beforehand. Just don't say anything limiting what the damage might've been, on the off chance they try to limit their liability to that later (very small (minuscule) chance, but better to be safe).

    This thread is rubbish….

    How much damage is there?

Keep in mind that even if you resolve this privately without filing with your own insurance company that you may be required to report the damage to them regardless. You may also not be fully covered by your insurance policy if you drive the vehicle whilst it has damage. Read the T&Cs.

  • what state are you in?

i know here in qld some local garbos put in like a few bucks extra to get some form of amazing insurance.

years ago worked in a factory and at the end of the street was to depot for the garbage trucks. cars on that street where forever getting side mirrors knocked off. one of my mates had his knocked off. he approached the depot told them and it was sorted so easily

Never park car in the street when dustmen are coming

Woop woop, the PC police have arrived. It's 'dust-person' or 'refuse disposal technician'

They prefer 'Excess Material Logistics Frontline Manager'

We have a sign that ask people to park cars properly and please do not block the Council Trucks.
One day someone had their car stick out too far, the Truck Driver had to come out and push the bins. But after that he left the bins behind the car. We all thought it's hilarious!
Sorry OP, hope you find solutions soon.
