Warranty or Refund for S10+ Question

hey guys

I have a 512gb S10+ purchased from harvey norman on launch day for $1849 from memory.

Recently, it was away for 2.5 weeks getting repaired due to a mark on the screen – a black mark like pixels that wouldn't illuminate.

Then the camera stopped focusing. This time away for 1 day shy of 3 weeks and it's now back and it still has the same problem.

Am I entitled to ask for a refund when I go in there tomorrow? Or is it too late?

  • Or is it too late?

    This…..

  • You can ask a business for your preference of a free repair, replacement or refund, but you are not always entitled to one

    Thats from the accc website.

You'll probably get a refurb unit. It'll work. If it doesn't work again, then I reckon you've got a case to ask for a refund.

They may refuse a refund because that's not necessarily a major issue. Ie, it can be fixed by replacement unit.

If it was note 7 all over again, well that's a different story.

Tough luck on getting the note 10

    • Thanks for that.

Actually given that this has been in for repair 3 times it could be argued that its got a major problem

A product or good has a major problem when:

it has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying it if they’d known about it
it is significantly different from the sample or description
it is substantially unfit for its common purpose and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time
it doesn’t do what you asked for and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time; or
    it is unsafe.

Probably you can argue points one and or three/four

3 weeks is a very long time for a $1800 Phone.

Samsung should have some sort of faster service, other higher end phone companies will swap/repair much quicker than that

    Worth a try

    Looky here

    https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

    • I'd argue that they are now cameras with an included phone. they tout how many pixels/sensors/bokas/etc come in the cameras, and if that doesn't work I'd say "it is significantly different from the sample or description".
Give the ACCC guidelines a for acceptable quality a go, and ask for refund. It's not like Gerry will take the hit, he'll just get a new replacement form Samsung for his stock.

Are you going through harvey norman or through samsung?

Try a actual samsung store https://www.samsung.com/au/findastore/

  • It's not so much late as the issues don't seem major - one or two dead/stuck pixels doesn't stop you using the phone, nor does the camera not-focusing, and both can be fixed through an easy repair (or repair-by-replacing-every-component).

    • The bugger is I was without phone for so long I went and bought a pixel as a backup phone. Such a waste of money but I can't go without a phone for a few days let along 5 plus weeks.

  • This is why i wouldn't touch a Samsung phone with a 40ft pole. Apple would of replaced it on the spot or by post if not near a store.

  • My S10 Plus died within 2 weeks of purchase. Took it to service center and problem was with main board. As it was still in ELF (Early Life Failure) they didn't repair and asked me to contact online sales team (I bought it from Samsung Online, so returns or repairs through Online sales team only). This process was real pain in bum. I was so frustrated with thier service that I would have just returned the phone If the price I bought wasn't a steal . I had to wait half an hour on phone to be disconnected after that, best part is you have to waste your office time (Online sales team Mon-Fri 10:00 am - 05:00 pm only). At last after two months of arguing and worst customer service, my phone was replaced with brand new. Lesson learnt, Apple provides best customer service and never switch to Samsung.
