I had bad experience with this. Just note when you use this promotion: you have to show the bday email when ordering. Our waiter was not familiar with the promo and have to ask her manager. Then she asked to see a photo id to confirm the birthday. When we pay the bill they still charge the 'free' dumpling. Have to complain to manager, and once again they asked a photo ID and then process our refund. Just check your bill and don't expect a good service especially on busy lunch time.
Subway requires photo id on their birthday free sub and email as well, have to go back second times.
I'm not giving them my ID just for a basket of dumplings
I don't think you give it to them, you just show it to them to verify your birthday.
Man, I love Dumplings; wish we had this deal in SA
Only on the day on your birthday?
Valid for 4 weeks from the date of email received from New Shanghai.
How long to get the email once you sign up?
Cheers
I signed up last month. Don’t remember when.
My birthday is on the 3rd week of August.
Received the email on 1st of August.
if u want u can sign up 365 email accounts then u get free dumplings everyday…
…. whether or not your conscious allows you to proceed is a question only for yourself
I allow myself even if I am unconscious. So there.
Oh you mean conscience?
Locations seem scarse.
There is a store in Shanghai, so they cater for a wider geographical area than most Australian stores.
This place is great for food. Unfortunately the service is pretty terrible.
As is the case in just about every Chinese restaurant.
Username checks out lol
I never understood why some people care so much about service. You're there for the food, if it tastes good and they're not rude then who cares.
Some people care about the whole package, you know ambience, being treated like a king. Makes them feel special. Often times they expect it even at cheap Chinese restaurants though…
Only service I look for at food places is
1. Good food for good value.
2. Staff noticing when I have a request. Or ready to order.
they jacked up the price and the quality is a bit meh in ashfield….
What do you think of shanghai nights in Ashfield?
I really liked it when I went years agois a bit meh
The old shanghai is better than the new shanghai in Ashfield about 10 years ago. No more I think its gone
Looks to be about $11.00 to $18.00 worth of value depending on which dumpling you get and steamed or fried.. not bad but would feel cheap just going in to get a free dumpling maybe then going out to each their own
Basket of dumplings?
How many is in a basket?
Everything is just marketing rewording to me until some specific numbers are seen or thrown around.
8 min.
A true Ozbargainer would walk out without paying a cent and with a smile on their face :)
And a heel click.
And a true asian family results in two people paying the same bill, we paid twice cause the guy at the till changed last time we were here…
Won’t feel too cheap if order a drink with the free dumpling?
Yeah I guess so.
Honestly might as well order a meal or something cheap like fried rice to go with it so you don't feel like you are taking too much advantage of their deal/offer/promotion.
But this is ozb. Where people will step over their grandmother to get a freebie.
@xoom: True dat this is cheap ass central
Visited recently. Chadstone Vic. Service was alright. Food was okay but paying for deco and environment.
Taste and quality of food have steadily gone downhill over the last 2 years in both the emporium and the chadstone stores….sad!
Just in time for birthday next week. Any recommendations on which one to visit in Sydney?
Westfield CBD
And conveniently a lot of people are having a birthday today…
And they give you a free cocktail for signing up - not just free dumplings.
Note cocktail needs to be ordered with food.
The soups would probably be the cheapest food to order if they don’t allow the free dumplings to be considered as a purchase
Has anyone tried using both the free birthday dumpling and free cocktail vouchers at the same time?
Did they say how many dumplings? - most promo i get with Chinese restaurants have very tiny or hidden fineprints and conditions you will only know once your there.
There were 8 dumplings. It’s the ordinary serving so no tiny or hidden fineprints
How many dumplings do you get?
8 dumplings
Anyone know if you can get the pan fried pork puns or just the regular dumplings?
Yeah you can get the pan fried ones too, that’s what I got
anything from the dumplings and xiao long bao category, catch is if they'll only credit the cheapest if there's more than 2 x types orders of dumplings
I don't think there was a minimum the last time I used it. There is now minimum $38.
