Hisense 55R7 Series 7 UHD HDR ULED 55" TV $988, Samsung Series 8 RU8000 55" 4K UHD LED $1039 + Delivery @ Appliance Central eBay

POSTIE

I'm in the market for a 55" and came across this deal.

Previously available on pre-order from appliancescentral for $939 (but that deal lasted hours) so this isn't such a bad deal for a new TV.

I wouldn't mind some discussion on where this TV ranks as bang-for-buck in the 55" bracket. The Samsung UA55RU8000 for example is almost the same price. Thoughts?

OP, in response to your question in post:

Consider having a read at the following review:
    https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/product/hisense-2019-series-8-r…

Article has a high level overview of the different HISENSE models and the key differences between them (eg. quantum dots, Dolby vision, backlit panel, etc. ). Also have a read through the comments and links posted on ozbargain relating to the P8 model (and other “P” models which are from last year).

At the end of the day it’s a very personal preference and highly dependent on what you will watch on it and how far from the screen you’ll be sitting.
The closer you sit to the TV, the more likely you are to distinguish even the smallest of issues.

And finally, you cannot really compare apples for oranges (OLED vs. LED/ULED) but the gap is closing slowly.

Sorry but gadgetguy is far from "high level". His reviews are basically opinion pieces filled with marketing fluff. I really want to see some rtings level reviews of Hisense TV's .

Unfortunately like TCL, hisense release cheaper and superior TV's to the US market (that we don't get), so we'll never be able to compare since all the best review sources are american based.

    • Unfortunately there is an issue with this TV where you can’t use your favourite channel list in the electronic program guide. This means that the electronic program guide is cluttered up with all the useless channels like spree and ABC Jazz radio. Very frustrating as I could use my favourite channel list on my older 55n7.

Another annoying thing is that when using the electronic program guide, when you select a program to watch, the TV will then ask you whether you want to watch the program. This is only one extra step, but is very annoying when you have to go through it for every single program you want to see.

Yet another annoying thing is that when you try and use the channel list, it defaults to the full list of channels, rather than your favourite channel list. While the picture looks good, if I had my time again I would pay a bit more and get a TV with a more usable interface.

  • which one is better?

  • I managed to get the Hisense 65R7 last week for $1255

    • How is it?

    • I want to know as well

      • Is that a good price?

        • $100 lower than ozb posts
          Where did you get it?

    • Good price. Got it for about $100 more about a month ago

  • I got this from the previous deal and I am super happy with it.

    • which one did you get?

      • Sorry I should have specified, the 55r7. Replaced a Samsung with it. Very good deal

  • From what I understand the 55R7 does not have Quantum Dot, so it's not really a ULED. Even though a lot of places have it marketed as such.

    • Yeah this is true. I think there is some confusion as the 65R7 ad 75R7 us Quantam, but for some reason, the 55 isnt :(
