Some time ago one of the amazing members here posted a pilot/flying dog-fight app which I downloaded- and it’s pretty good! (It’s not heavy or hard core violent- just little planes that you can loop-de-loop to try and get behind each other and ‘pew-pew-pew’, almost a little Star Wars-esque, but with bi-planes and green scenery)
Our youngest (6yo) got playing it last night (we were at the ED with him and it distracted him for a couple of hours- TY OP!), anywho, it’s a little bit hard for him and he asked me to find him another one ‘like it’ but I’m coming up empty :(
I tried downloading a couple of different ones but they all tried to hit us with the IAP’s- one wanted $62 (not a typo!) for a different specs and, being 6 years old he doesn’t understand why he can’t get them LOL!
Does anyone know of any fun/reasonable flight simulator ‘dog-fight’ style games that are good, but not hugely expensive?
Obviously at his age we don’t want blood and guts and hard-core sound effects, but he is pretty smart so he loses interest in the ‘easy’ little kid games really quickly.
Any ideas, please?

This won't fit your bill because it sounds like you're looking for a mobile game and this one isn't free. I am mentioning it however because I am my son played it a lot when he was that age. It's called Snoopy vs The Red Baron. There was a follow-up that I didn't play called Snoopy Flying Ace and it was well received too.

My son loves snoopy- so that one is definitely worth a look for one to play at home, thank you :)
As for ED visit, it resulted in an overnight admission, but they’ve let us go home today yay
Could try War Thunder - both my kids (when young enjoyed that).

Funny you say that- I was writing this and my 16yo looked horrified until I clarified it for him, and then he went ‘Ooooohhhh, right, haha’
Me too, I thought WTF. Then I’m back from Spain where they still have bull fighting :(.

Not free, but Pilotwings Resort on 3DS is a lot of fun.
Hubby and nine year old play war wings. He says there are no blood and guts. It is a free game with in app purchases but hubby has never used any real money
