Visa Debit card loaded with USD - Best way to utilise??

Gday all, as the title reads, my wife has been gifted $200 in USD in the form of a Visa Debit card, and we're wondering what the best way to get best value out of it. Some people in her company have deposited it into their Paypal accounts, but i'm unsure of any fees applied here. We're willing to spend online in the US and ship back to Oz if this is better avenue, as long as we can find inexpensive shipping and handling methods. Basically, we want best bang for our converted buck…

Cheers,
Scott

Not exactly what I was after, however a great suggestion. Thanks.

I would have thought converting to AUD with the current exchange rate would be best

    • Agreed, but I guess this is why I'm asking. Convert…how? Just something to add, I confirmed with my wife today that it's a virtual prepaid Visa card, so unsure if debit or credit, however she's adamant she cannot withdraw the money from an ATM.

      • Probably deposit it to your PayPal account the same way colleagues did? You can check how many aud you'll get before you commit to it, so if you thought you could get better value for the unconverted $ you still have a chance to. For things to spend the unconverted $ on think of some digital subscriptions you would have anyway so you don't have to pay post forwarding companies anything. I imagine it will be hard to find something worthwhile due to the exchange rate + subscriptions in usd would be mostly more expensive than other countries. But you never know if you look hard enough!

        • Excellent. I'll give checking AUD conversion a go in Paypal then. Might just be the easiest way.

  • So update to this…i've linked the prepaid Visa card to my Paypal account however there is no option to transfer funds from the card either back to my Paypal balance, nor my bank account. Digging a little further, Paypal simply does not allow this. The only think I CAN do is use it as a method of payment for any Paypal purchases like I do with my bank account and other linked CC's. I don't wish to do that.

So back to square 1. My wife relayed incorrect information to me, and no one else at her work has done this, she read it online. Dead end there. Anyone else have any suggestions?
