Mobile Numbers Automatically Getting Linked with WhatsApp

Whenever I add a number to my phone contacts, the person's WhatsApp also start showing in my WhatsApp list. How to stop that? I have a Samsung s10e if that helps. Thanks

    If it was iOS you could go settings->whatsapp-> switch off access to contacts, but not sure on android sorry.

    Settings, Apps, WhatsApp, Permissions, turn off Contacts.

    Haven't done it so dunno what the effects will be but the setting is there.

    It doesn't get "linked" to anything. It just shows up on your Whatsapp as a contact. Just like when you enter someone's number on your phone, it's shown as a contact in your address book.

      They're owned by Facebook… so I wouldn't trust it either

        Are you suggesting that WhatsApp uploads your contacts to their server? That's a big call and no one has come close to suggesting that.

        Otherwise, your contact's number stays on your phone and listing them on the WhatsApp app simply means that you can interact with that contact through that app, just like you how could call/ message them from the "phone" or "messages" apps.
