    Upvote for the table.

No love for the dark beer though.

Dark beer is an acquired taste. I would agree with you up until 12 years ago, then I made some (with decent ingredients, NOT from #Colesworth) and now I love it. Most dark beers in a bottle are ordinary from tooheys, coppers, or cub. However taste them on tap, and it's so much better.

Agreed, don't like their brands of dark beers.

However taste them on tap, and it's so much better.

Couldn't agree more. One of the best beers I ever had was Mclaren Vale drk on tap. It was insanely tasty and for some reason I could just pound that stuff and not get a horrible hangover.

        • Guinness on tap, or in a can. Awesome. I bought 40 cans cheap once. They had 1 week left on bb date.

      • +2

        Coppers = Coopers?
If so then I do not agree at all, Coopers Best Extra Stout is a fantastic beer and great value. Once of my favourites.
White Rabbit Dark Ale is also a really great beer.

Guess it just depends what you're in to. Guinness is alright but a bit light on flavour for me, but I am a stout man so there you go.

      • Do you still brew your own dark beers? Been looking at doing this myself just for dark beers as they are often quite expensive and as you say not as good off the shelf as on tap.

Any suggestions on which brand, recipes etc?

        • It's a big can of worms to open. It's one of those things that gets better the more time and money you put into it.

Dark beers are good to start with because they are quite strong in flavour and hide a lot of you mistakes like untamed yeast flavours.

Get yourself a kit with a 25-30L fermenter and some bottles and have a go. I'd say start sooner rather than later before the weather starts heating up too.

See how you go and if all the bottle cleaning etc doesn't put you off maybe try a fresh wort kit from your local home brew shop and start looking around for a second hand fridge to keep the fermentation temp in check.

          Good luck!

    • White rabbit dark ale on offer too (in NSW at least)

Can confirm the Tropical Torpedo is awesome. Really good if you like Stone and Wood Pacific Ale

    • My favourite craft beer - Stone and Wood pacific ale

        'craft'

No need for the quotation marks is there?

          • -1

@DavoW: Depends on how you define craft. I think S&W is pretty commercial now. Fantastic beer though!

            • +6

@The Wololo Wombat: Commercial, but still independent. Unlike 4 pines, white rabbit, mountain goat, cricketers, little creatures, and pirate life.

            • @The Wololo Wombat: Craft beer - a beer made in a traditional or non-mechanized way by a small brewery. That would probably help categorize as craft.

  • Bro you a legend

  • I always do click and collect order for every new beer that's on member offer. And Woolworths gift cards work as well.

I did not enjoy Balter Pilsner from the last deal. Had a weird after taste

    • +1

Agreed, it was crap and not even worth $10 especially for a 4 pack

    • Was yours close to expiry? Some where. I’ve had one and quite enjoyed it. It’s bitter but in a good way.

    • Never enjoyed the Pilsner either… I see they have now discontinued it and replaced with a new lager.

      • Had the lager last week. It's ok

        • I have a can in the fridge for this afternoon. Expectations weren't high but you have dropped them completely :)
The problem with so many fruity ales on the market these days is that a lager - even if done well - seems a bit blah.

          • +1

@Captain Pineapple: Haha sorry! It's still enjoyable, I suppose it's just weird having a Balter that doesn't have that heavy taste, maybe because the last Balters I drank were the Strong Pale Ale and the IIPA. Let me know how you find it though! Beer is subjective after all (also I feel terrible for tainting your opinion of it!)

            • @MikeWhitneysHair: Another carbonation issue with balter cans. Wasn't an enjoyable post work beer. Have had issues with carbonation with the pils, alt brown and now this.

              • @Captain Pineapple: What do you mean? Over/under? I know a rep I could pass it on to if you want?

Sorry you didn't enjoy the lager, hope my average review didn't taint it!

                • +1

@MikeWhitneysHair: It wasn't your review or expectation setting. I've drunk enough over the years to know what to expect with a lager. However, the can was under carbonated. If that is their intention then it's not for me. As I said, I've had a few issues with low carbonation in their cans over the years.
Not knocking Balter at all, just stating a fact. Clearly they are doing something right given their standing in the beer community.
That being said, have loved their other stuff, XPA, Strong, IPA, seasonals. The DIPA and Hazy are fantastic.
If you want to pass feedback on to the rep, go for it. Probably helpful for them to know.

    • Just had my first can from the same deal. Pretty good I thought. I will probably have another. Expiry is November on mine.

Asahi Super Dry 500mL cans $18.90 for a 6 pack (Made in Japan, not China) [QLD] approx 10 month expiry (usually when Dans have them on sale they're end of life and taste different)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just picked up James Squire Hop Thief 6-pack for only $15.90 ($23.90 on the shelf), it’s a pretty nice beer made from decent hops

  • Went to re-buy some ones I bought and looks like some prices have gone up by a dollar. White Rabbit and 4Pines did anyway. Not sure of others.

  • No deal in Perth right?
