Gaming PC Help No Display - SOLVED

SOLVED - I changed cases for my gaming pc. Everything is installed properly but my graphics card is not displaying on my monitor. My CPU doesn't have an onboard GPU. The HDMI is plugged into the graphics card. Graphics card is running fine and fans are spinning.

Any ideas?

Specs:

    Is it POSTing?
This did happen to me with my new build… turns out I hadn't plugged in the CPU's power pins lol.

If the CPU doesn't have onboard I think it displays a message saying so. Do you get that?

    • Everything is running just no signal.

      No message from cpu

      • Can you take a pic of the guts?

        • Won't let me unfortunately

            @dnvrngts: What won't let you?

          • @dnvrngts: I can't post an image here is what i mean

            • @dnvrngts: Imgur, tinypic or another free image hosting site will allow you though, then you can simply post a URL to that image so we can eyeball the build and check if you have made any mistakes when you rebuilt the system into the new case.

@dnvrngts: Top left of the motherboard, there is an empty 4pin power source connector labeled ATXPWR2. This is supposed to have a power cable going into it from the PSU to supply +12v to the CPU power circuit.

  • Biostar A320MH?

What beeps or codes is it displaying?

    • Yep, biostar.

No beeps or codes displaying. No signal.

      • I would then follow scrimshaw's advice below.

After that try a different video card. Try your video card in a different machine as well.

It's all about narrowing down the potential issue now until you find the culprit (which might be the graphics card itself) otherwise you'll go around in circles.

  • wrong hdmi input selected on your TV/monitor

re-seat everything and make sure the card is fully inserted into the PCIE slot, the power supply cables are in and if possible, attach the piezo electric speaker to the motherboard so that you can hear beep codes.

You should also try a different type of cable, if HDMI is not working perhaps try a DVI or DP.

  • Everything is exactly the same as in the old case. Same monitor, same hdmi.

  • Did you reconnect the 8 pin power connector on the graphics card?

    • Yeah, its got a 6 pin. The graphic card fans are spinning.

  • Check to see if the card is fully inserted into the PCI-e slot. Sometimes the GPU fan will still run, but will not be seated properly to post. Otherwise, check to make sure dust or debris have not gotten into any of the display connectors. Last thing to try is a different display cable. You may also want to have a look in your motherboard bios to make sure the settings have been configured correctly.

    • I've tried different cables, can't get bios because no image is displayed.

  • As per DarthAntz, plug your screen directly into the motherboard. It has a VGA and HDMI port, so use whatever you have. You don't need a GPU to get to bios and basic boot settings. Check BIOS for any video related settings.
Another (much more annoying) issue could be that you have a motherboard riser (the little screw things that hold your motherboard off the case) in the wrong spot and it is in contact with something it shouldn't be, but the only way to find out is to take out the motherboard again, so try everything else first.

  • If you are sure that you installed every hardware 100% accurately then better try moving the mouse around after switching on the PC, sometimes the screen is on sleep mode.

    • Tried, no dice.

  • Try turning it off and on

    • Classic it crowd gag

  • Check the monitor connections. Try to get it to display the logo or whatever. Maybe play around in the monitor options just to be sure everything is right. Then start doing stuff on the computer hardware. Could be a psu connection that is loose or hardware not plugged in like others have said. Could even be something to do with your case, like case usb causing power issues. Maybe also try DVI if you have that.

    • I've removed all things connected to case except power, still not working

  • Have you also went back over and placed everything back in the old case you may have inadvertently damaged a component in the transfer?

You could always call case manufacturer and speak to their tech support they may point something out that is different to what you have been used to such as a alternate position on a pin connecter on the board

then there is the clutching at straws

take it to local PC store where you bought it or some of the components, if it was a complete home build they might be reluctant, (don't ask don't get) that may help if they are going to potentially obtain a sale and could point out something really obvious that you, know but have missed due to frustration.

then there is always the likes of JB who has let customers bring in hardware to try different monitors they may have a couple of alternate cables you could try and a few monitors

  • Thanks all for your help - problem solved - it was just me being a pleb!

    • How?
      What was the issue?

I didn't have the 4 pin power connector in.

  • Now I can go and get a chicken dinner in PUBG ;)

    • Oh wow is it still a thing?

The server issues ages ago made everyone I know bail from it never to return.
