Best Laptop for a Budget of $4000

Can anyone please let me know a good laptop for a budget of $4000 (can be slightly up or down)

Asus Zenbook Pro Duo (Australian pricing unavailable but assume it will be aroun $4400) (Core i9 /32GB/ 1TB SSD / 2060 RTX Graphics)
https://www.asus.com/au/Laptops/ZenBook-Pro-Duo-UX581GV/

Microsoft Surfacebook 2 - Around $3650 (Core i7 /16GB /256SSD/ Nvidia 1060 GTX Graphics)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/config/Surface-Book-2/…

Alienware M15 R2 - Around $3520 and comes with a free monitor (Core i7 / 16GB / 512SSD / 2070 RTX Graphics)
https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/new-alienware-m…

Macbook Pro $4099 - Around $4099 (Core i9 / 16GB / 512SSD / Radeon Pro 560X)

Weight is not a big issue but cant be too heavy (less than 2.5 KG ideal)
Still undecided whether i want a laptop with decent specs but with a longer battery life or laptop with all the high end specs but with mediocre battery.

If you had $4000 what would you chose?

P.S Based on my current usage I would say 90% of the time on bed browsing web/ watching youtube / movies and facebook etc..
Haven't played any games on my laptop but that's because i currently don't have a gaming grade laptop. I currently have a Macbook air and it has been a very robust little piece of hardware ( it hasn't really given me any issues yet)

I really enjoyed carrying it around when i go overseas as its light and has a decent battery life.

Now that i can spend up to $4000 i need to buy a laptop that's future proof (at least for the next 4 years) and has to be something i will enjoy using.

Please feel free to comment what you would buy if you had $4000.
Thanks

      Bill Shortens everythink.

    • Not really mate. I've been using one laptop for the past 6 years. Got some funds approved from the central treasury (of up-to $4000). knowing that i will be using the new laptop for at least 4 years in the future. I thought why not.

it depends on what you are looking for

      What would you chose?

      • +1

with a gaming pc at home, i would choose the macbook anyday. It just fits my workflow better.

Even you have no idea what you want, how are we to?

What are you doing with it?

    Razer Blade Stealth 4k

I want that Zenbook just because its mad.
But yeah if you want serious assistance you’re going to have to tell us what you want to use the device for

  • +1

If you're spending that king of coin, got the zenbook.

if you want to look professional though, get the surface or macbook.

  • +1

What do you plan on using the laptop for?

  • Dell Inspiron

IMHO spending $4k on a laptop for "90% of the time on bed browsing web/ watching youtube / movies and facebook etc" is really not worth it. You can get a nice Zenbook for ~$1500-2000 which will handle anything you throw on it. Slim, light, good build quality. Even the cheaper Surface Books if you want a hybrid.

Because you're not gaming or doing any work that's graphics intensive (video editing, rendering, etc), spending big dick money on a hectic GPU isn't worth it either.

    • If i dont spend the $4000 i lose out on the remainder. Thats why i listed deals closer to that price range. If it wasnt the case i would only get a laptop close to $2000

You're best getting a Macbook Pro then. Slim, light, good build quality, prestige, good support (get Apple Care+), etc. The main thing is that It Just Works©. I have been a power user of Linux and Windows for many years and I would jump to OSX for my daily in a heartbeat to OSX. Price is very prohibitive, hence I don't have one, but that isn't an issue for you so I say go ahead.

      • Wow I wish someone would also give me $4k to spend on laptops……

At that price i'd be looking at a Asus ROG Zephyrus for ~$3400 (https://www.ple.com.au/Products/636239/ASUS-ROG-Zephyrus-S-G…)

    Or the Razer Blade 15"

Surfacebook is pretty, but unless you are using it for its dual functionality (tablet and PC) its very expensive.
Personally never liked the look of the Alienware laptops
Macbook Pro - Used mac for the last decade but prices are going up, specs arent keeping pace. Also latest Macbook Pro has had some serious design issues (heat/keyboard)

Zenbook is interesting, but not sure how useful the second screen is.

Considered a Matebook X Pro? Look decent, has a MX150 so could do some light gaming. Pretty design, compact with good battery life (and also cheaper)

I am happy with HP Spectre X360

  • +1

Wish I had that much money to spend on a laptop…

First of what do you want the laptop for, what will it be used it for?

If it's for gaming then out of all the ones you've listed the Alienware M15 R2 is the best due to it's graphics card.
If it's a fashion accessory then Apple is the way to go.

We really need to know what you'll be using it for and most of all what you really want it for.

$2000 laptop + $2000 desktop would be much better value wise

    why not lenovo?
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/Thi…
with upgrades will be upto $4000
    or
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/X1-…

x1 carbon great light laptop and good battery

If you want a 2in1 I'd go for surface.

    • Personally I dont quite like the look of Thinkpad laptops. I would buy it over any other laptop for office us though

  • I am happy with this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/470466 . Of course I upgraded ram to 16gig for extra 50. So much more portable than old Alienware 17.

  • MacBook Pro any day. But if you want to game avoid Alienware. In my experience, the battery only lasts 4 hours even with the 99wh upgrade. Battery health deteriorates much faster than other laptops, constant hardware failure (Had to replace my mobo 3-4 times and One of the USB ports won't work with a G29)

    Benefits of Macbook Pro:
    - Longer battery life
    - Lighter
    - Quieter Fan Noise
    - Great screen for graphic design
    - Ability to produce programs for more platforms seamlessly
    - MacBook goes to sleep without eating much battery, unlike windows
    - Better interface
    - Find My Macbook Tracking
    - Useful touch bar for program
    - Retains its value much longer than other laptops

  • Macbook Pro with apple care.

    • NO one seemed to like Macbook as it had no votes yesterday. Now its the most voted. :D

  • All of the laptops listed are overkill for your use-case, I would look at something a little cheaper.

    • Yes agree. I would be happy to buy the latest Macbook air. But in this case I have around $4000 to spend. If i dont spend i lose out on the rest

MacBook Pro because in four years the bulk of the Windows laptops will not be a pleasure to use.

    • Alienware Gaming laptop is only 200 grams heavier than the Macbook Pro (surprisingly)

    • I would disagree, as while that my be true for budget Windows laptops, a premium device will last the fours years and then some (as long as it's maintained and serviced regularly).

  • I just bought the new Dell XPS 7590 with 4K OLED screen and GTX 1650 graphics card which plays every game I want. Awesome laptop I got on sale for $2700

    • Whats the battery life like?

  • +2

Seems like people like Macbook Alienware and the Zenbook

I personally think Alienware is a good deal.

    Pros
    - Has the wow factor made from magnesium alloy (so does Macbook and Asus) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl2E_BJ1YEg
    - It is only 200 grams heavier than the Macbook Pro 15 inch.. (not really a pro but for a gaming Laptop it is impressive)
    - Has the second fastest graphics chip available on a laptop.
    - Has a decent battery life (people claim 6 hours battery life compared to the 10 hour battery life on Macbook)
    - Can get 3 year premium support added in (and still cheaper than the Macbook Pro)
    _ You get a $700 monitor as a freebee.
    - Plus you can get $450 cashback..

    • If you are getting the alienware, where are you getting it?

If it is a brick and mortar store like JB, it would be a gen behind (usually), and if you are getting it online, customer support when something goes wrong is a big hassle in australia.

I agree that you really should avoid alienware at all costs, even if its a good deal. It most likely will not last 4 years.

  • What will you mainly use it for?
