One of the dumbest abbreviation I've seen…. but I 'think' he's trying to say "negative".

        • +3

might be dumb to you but its a very common abbreviation used in the dental field.

Yeah, it's almost as bad as omitting the word "I" from the beginning of sentences, e.g. "I don't know what that means."

Seems decent for what you pay! Not everyone need the expensive dentist's ongoing physical assistance and the results for normal braces highly depend on how good the dentist is!

This is going to shake up the industry, so naturally they are going to lobby and scare people ;-)

      • Increase in gingival chemical burns
        Enamel damage
The H2O2 if not used in the right concentration can melt the enamel and leave blotchy white spots - not exactly what you payed for
The light activated kits are just a gimmick

All -ve effects of DIY online whitening kits

        Btw H2O2 = hydrogen peroxide

        • Yeah true. I definitely recommend a dentist doing whitening via Phillips Zoom or another method that does not involve at home teeth bleaching but im guessing its just a offer to get people in the door and see the aligning system ( which looked good to me)

    I did this last night.

you don't get the full whitening kit (just a 2 day applicator and a LED light kit)

the Full Kit (worth $79) includes 9 Applicator pens.

Also, it was a tad bit shady considering that they automatically signed you up for "fasttrack" which automatically accepted your plan and charged your CC on file for $2499.

I called up after my appointment to turn fast track off and cancel auto acceptance.

Just beware of the above practice. The product seems good though and the service was also great.

Also should mention that Align Technologies (the company that own invisalign) own 19% of Smile Direct Club and manufacture the plastic retainers for them.

Considering my invisalign quote was $8000 and these guys are a flat $2499 ($2799 with monthly payment system) it seems like a value for me. Don't forget to mention the SAVEINAUG promo code for $150 off the total price. These guys also claim with health insurance (my cover is covering the full $2800 cost)

    • I was looking at invisalign a few years back but couldn't find a health fund that covered anymore than about $1k of their ~$8k price. What deal do you have going that they will cover the full $2.8k for bracers/invasalign?

I am with St Lukes Health. they cover $1000 a year with a lifetime limit of $2800 on my cover.

When i rang them to ask if they will cover it, they said that it would be $2800 lifetime limit and i just submit the same invoice over 3 years to get the whole $2499 back.

Otherwise, they (St Lukes) advised that i could just pay monthly and sent them the invoice monthly (or quarterly or half yearly) to pay up to $1000 a year climbing to the $2800 lifetime limit. I will be be paying monthly to minimize the out of pocket costs each year. (better sitting in my offset than in the dentists bank account!)

        • Oh I never realized you could do that. I always thought if you had treatment done at X year you could only claim the yearly limit on that. I never though you could claim that treatment over several years (if paying upfront). Do you know if that is just a St Lukes thing or it's across all PHI?

          • @knobbs: i was surprised too, no idea. best best is to call them and ask :)

    • I wonder if smile direct club also remove teeth, shave off between teeth etc. Or if they need to attach brackets like invisalign. (Is it the exact same system)
or if there are options for periodic in person check ups.

I cannot find out too much info on smile direct club which is worrying.

It might be why invisalign is more expensive.

      • as far as i know, only extreme cases of invisialign need brackets. teeth shaving or teeth removal type cases would be better off used the traditional method of braces. in my case, i have had 4 years of traditional braces but forgot to wear my retainer so have had a minor teeth movement impacting my jaw and speech, this type of dental service would be perfect for me as its a small case and i have already had 7 teeth removed and do not need shaving.

I believe you send photos of your teeth to smile club direct every 90 days to monitor the progress of your teeth vs their plan.

        • I was thinking this approach seems to resemble or act similar to a retainer.
Great for minor adjustments and alignment issues.

I put into smile direct club's "am I a candidate" questionaire. extreme teeth overlap and no space between teeth and the result came back as a perfect candidate.

Which i find hard to believe unless they take teeth out as well.

          • @stickymoo: Only 1 way to find out and get a free whitening kit and 3D scan hahahahha

  • Has anyone here had their teeth straightened through this company or with using similar technologies & retainers?

    • might be better asking in the forums if anyone has used invialign :)

      • So you just signed up to this last night?

        • I went to the first consultation. Still waiting to hear back from the dentist who has recieved my 3D scans to see how long the treatment will be, before/after pictures & if they can even service me (i might have too much overbite .etc that they can't correct)

        • If your only looking just for teeth whitening, I would recommend just getting a custom mould made and purchasing your own opalescence kit!

          • @TRAVELO: Custom mould like a mouthguard. Or are there specific custom moulds for teeth whitening?

  • Their customer service is good, easy to find help by phone. I have to cut some aligners myself to make them stop cut my tongue or gum, also some other issues too.

    • so they don't include a file to smoothen the edges of the retainer? normally a dentist does this when you go through each stage so bit worried if that's the case.

      • I can not find in my package, I use a lighter to smooth the edges, some parts do not fit gum very well in my case, unlike those photo from google shows only cover teeth, mine cover gum as well. if you need major fix, find a dentist, should be ok if just an easy fix like mine.
