    Binge worthy series!

If you are someone that is 'morally' opposed to pirating or whatever and don't have this series yet. I would say buy this, then go download the fan remaster and watch that instead.
No moral quandry (having a backup of something you actually own is legally fine) but also a better viewing experience.
Maybe watch the first couple episodes in this version (or compare at least) as there is weird 'ring' artifacts for the first couple episodes in the fan remaster.

As for the series itself. Easily the highest quality animated show around in most ways you could compare that (writing, world building, characters, animation itself etc). And up there as one of the best shows of all time animated or not.

    EDIT:
As for korra, well i'd say its worth a watch as the fights are pretty great and the animation is quite beautiful (except for parts at the start of season 2 lol), some characters you'll like, some plot points you'll like. Just overall worse execution on most of it than ATLA.
Still honestly up there as a pretty good/great show. just far off the OG.
No need for a fan remaster on this show either, so EZPZ.

Morally fine. Legally, not exactly. But I agree.

Just an aside, though. The series has been officially remastered and released on Bluray. I'm not sure if the itunes version is the same remaster, but iirc the weird ring artifacts in the first couple of episodes is gone.

      • Yeah im not even slightly against pirating even if not owning the real things. Just thought i'd write it like that so as to not upset any people with delicate sensitivities.

As for the Bluray vs fan remaster. From what i remember seeing/hearing around the blu-ray release, the fan remaster is still better overall. Again other than those first few episodes with the weird halo-ing (remembered what they were calling it).

        • +1

I think I remember the same. Would be nice if the guys who did the fan remaster could remaster the problematic episodes using the bluray though, if that is indeed the best source.

          • @Morien: Hi I'm just curious but could you explain what makes some of the episodes problematic?

            • +1

@900dollaridoos: The first 4 episodes in the DVD and fan remaster 'releases' have an issue dubbed "halo-ing". for a bunch of the outlines of characters and such there is an odd floating second line. almost like double vision.
this will give you an idea. http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparis… across the top you can hover over which screenshot source you want.
Dont take it as a full idea of the fan remaster vs bluray as the rest of the series looks better in the fan remaster.

          • @Morien: I do believe they posted the "upscaling/remastering" script they used, so it'd be interesting to see what you could do with that on the bluray. Though it might not be great as the filters and such were 'designed' for the DVDs visual problems.
If that wouldn't work i too would like them to do those 4 episodes custom from the blu-ray.
They used waifu2x as far as im aware so it might be possible to do it yourself (not necessarily you, just a general anyone).

      Appreciate the tips!

    • I didn't know about Korra, thought there was just this series (which I saw on Netflix ages ago). Thanks.

    • Season 1 of ATLA watch the fan remaster, official 1080p Blu-ray is way better quality than the fan one for the rest of the seasons though

      • Really?
When the Bluray released i had a google around and saw a few people say the opposite and the couple comparison screenshots i found seemed to agree with them.
But there really wasn't enough screenshots for me to get a full picture. Maybe ill have to 'acquire' the bluray copies and see for myself.

    I think I've watched this series a total of 10 times 😍🥰
    The besttttt

Will there be a HD version?

    • +1

It's in HD (read the description)

      • Description wasn't in HD.

      • I believe there is no real HD version. This HD version is a remastered. It is just a computer resizing algorithmic at play.

        • +1

No the blu-ray is definitely in HD. It's much better than the streaming versions on Netflix/AmazonPrime in various countries.

Just don't expect it to look super-duper sharp (like the Princess and the Frog or something). It's close to what you remember the DVD or streaming versions as being, with the rose-coloured glasses of memory.

          Still worth buying.

Don't even get me started on what an INCREDIBLE show this is.

  • +1

Probably my favourite tv show of all time.

Not Korra though - I only made it through a few episodes but found it terrible. It was like all the beauty and humour and magic found in Ang was removed for Korra.

    • +3

Korra definitely took time to warm up to.

I think that they made Korra too "busy" compared to TLOA which was much more simple (yet incredible, none-the-less)
So many different characters in TLOK, whereas it was essentially just Aang, Sokka and Katara in TLOA.

Netflix needs to make something AMAZING.

      • +3

Netflix already made one - Dragon Prince. The season 3 is on the way.

        • I hated the Dragon Prince

        • +1

I was watching and enjoying The Dragon Prince and thought that it reminded me of Avatar, then I found out some of the same crew made both. No surprises there. I liked it. The only negative I would have of it is that it’s very politically correct - very SJW friendly.

      • +3

How dare you forgot about the Blind Bandit?!
Not to mention Iroh, Zuko and Cabbages guy.

One thing I hated about the Korra series was that everyone seemingly had access to advanced skills (eg lightning for welding and metalbending) but also appeared to be weaker.

        • +1

Don't forget the Blue Spirit. One of the best episodes ever.

        • From what I saw, Korra was definitely a Mary Sue.

          • @Saver Scott: Except she literally constantly (profanity) basically everything up. So not really mary sue.
She was powerful sure, but as an avatar thats basically a given.

            • @thearbiter117: Thanks. I didn’t see past the first few episodes from memory so I never saw that. Knowing that makes me more likely to try watching it one day.

      • +2

The problem with Korra was the show only got renewed at the end of every season. With TLA they knew they had three seasons to make a world and an overarching story. With Korra they had four seperate stories because they didn't know if they would be able to end a season on a cliffhanger.

  • You gotta be kidding me. I bought this at full price only a week ago. I guess I could buy Korra as well.

Do iTunes offer a Physical copy posted to you, like Netflix used to?

    • Nope. It's a digital service.

  • Definitely one of the most entertaining animated series of this century.
