VoIP Service Does Not Auto Reconnect?

I have a single line VOIP service with MyNetFone running on an SPA112 connected to an Orbi RBK20. My NBN HFC internet is with TPG.

The issue is that the VOIP service has been cutting out at least once a fortnight and the only way to reconnect it is to cycle the Orbi on and off.

Turning off the HFC modem or SPA112 on their own does not reconnect the MyNetFone service.

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? My I.T. guy at work said something about assigning a static IP address for the SPA112 however I have no idea how to do this.

    Hi Petronas,

I had the same problem! I'm PRETTY sure the way to fix it is to enable 'NAT - Keep Alive' on in the settings.

Follow this guide! Page 8 is what I mentioned above however the guide in itself is excellent. Fixed all my VOIP woes.

    • Will try these settings and update the thread in a few weeks.

      Thanks!

  • This didn't fix the issue :(

I have also disabled SIP ALG in the Orbi.

    Any other ideas?

Well, it's got something to do with the Orbi not being able to renew the ip addresses via DHCP. You could set it as static which might fix it, or it could be some fault with the Orbi.

You definitely need to assign a static ip address to whatever LAN port the ATA is on to do further testing.

The tell tale sign is that rebooting the HFC modem and the ATA isn't doing anything. I'm assuming the internet still works even though the VOIP is down?

It could also be that that LAN port is dying or something after a few days.

      • Would there be any negative repercussions of setting a static ip address for the SPA112?

Yes the internet is working fine when the VoIP is down.

          I don't think so.

There a lots of private lan addresses available, so I doubt you would ever run out as a normal user.
