Opinion Needed on Laptop Please

Hi

I'm trying to find a laptop for my wife to use. She doesn't want anything fancy, nor for gaming. It's just for her to use with her Sewing/Embroidery machine by storing patterns, taking it with her to sewing class, running some basic software, and surfing the web. Oh, she does like to play those slot machine games and watch Youtube tutorial videos. :/

Is this overkill?

  • It's a good laptop, but is definitely overkill, Dell Latitudes are generally pricey as they're enterprise laptops for business use and what you pay for isn't just the specifications but also the engineering of the device (and also the Latitude branding).

You can probably get by with something that costs 30% less, like a Lenovo Thinkpad E Series.

  • that is overkill.

get a refurb Lenovo IdeaPad S130 - 14" HD/N4000/4GB/64GB eMMC AU $299.00 delivered from grays ebay. - they have 20% off codes very regularly so wait for that code to come around again

I bought an earlier model for my daughter for school. it lasts well on battery and is perfect for her schooling needs.

    • +2

No one deserves to suffer with a processor that slow. Even Chrome and Office will choke it. And the screen resolution is a joke.

It's great you can get a laptop for $300 but it really is bottom of the barrel.

    • Yeah altomic, don't be so hard to wife's. Remember happy wife happy life

      • it is not too bad.

as i said, my daughter has the earlier 100s - slower cpu- but it runs office perfectly fine. we hook it up to the TV and plays movies over the internet and youtube via HDMI. works a treat.

chrome is fine with half a dozen tabs open.

        good battery life. it's lightweight.

        meets OPs wife's usage requirements.

  • Check dell factory outlet

  • The specs are good and what you should be aiming for to get a responsive laptop. As said previously latitude is a business grade laptop which is engineered to be run for 40 hours a week for 4 years. You should be able to find a laptop with similar specs for about 1000-1100. Also their is no need vpro it's a business only feature.

  • taking it with her to sewing class

If she's actually lugging it around, consider a smaller model, 13" or so, since she won't need any of the better specs, but she'll definitely appreciate the lighter weight and usually better battery life.
