Hi, travelling to Singapore in early December for a 10 day cruise. Looking around for a few days, then returning. My query is, I never see any special priced flights from any of the cheapie lines (or the expensive ones either). *** 1) anyone know why and 2) do you know of any fares that are cheap. Jetstar and Scoot are around $1400 to $1600 for the 2 of us with 20kg bags. I can go to Hawaii for almost half that! Suggestions? 5 December depart, coming back around 19 December. A bit flexible on the return.

Exactly the OP should also check Hawaii fares for the same timeframe, they might not find them so cheap as they now think.
If you dont have kids why travel in or near School holiday times, (unless you are a teacher).
Also suggest you book a few days earlier so if your cheap flight is delayed you dont miss your cruise.
Also check airAsia to KL then flight down from KL to Singapore - longer but might be a lot cheaper
It's often not any cheaper flying with LCC when you add meals & baggage (which is often unavoidable when flying long haul).
& as others have said, you're travelling in Dec, it's always gonna be more expensive. You best bet would be to go out there earlier and comes back as soon as your cruise is over (i.e. to front load your local travelling) so that your travel dates are as far away from Christmas as possible.
Travelling on Malaysia Airlines would normally be cheaper than direct on SQ or QF. Besides, KL is a good place to visit if you haven't been.
Op avoid school holidays, you would notice a massive price difference.
Mate, you're travelling in Dec. Peak season, go figure.
