Which Is Your Favourite Chips Brand and Flavour?

Title's pretty much said it…
I'll start:
Pringles - onion & chives
Boulder - jalapeno or historic smokey (too expensive though)

Red rock deli honey soy chicken or sweet chilli

Also absolutely hate salt and vinegar…
You should also try the ones from an Asian shop. Some of them are amazing

    • Recently, for some reason, I noticed that brands releasing a salt and vinegar flavour variety, it tastes a bit like banana essence, e.g. red Rock deli, even shapes' had one that tasted like banana.

Love the Smiths salt and vinegar though.

      • That seems to be the balsamic vinegar flavours, I've noticed that too! It doesn't match the potato at all.

      • +1

Natural chip co salt and vinegar chips are far superior imo.

    • +1

If you can get Japanese brands of consomme flavoured chips, I suggest you do so. It's like the ultimate BBQ flavour. I haven't seen them at any of the emporiums around me though, I had to haul a bunch back and ration them out.

      • Those are expensive. Most of the Asian grocery chips are.

        • Worth it!

But yeah you gotta pay for the shipping from Asia, I guess.

          • -1

@Munki: When I was a kid, the Calbee Hot & Spicy chips were $1.30.

Same size chips only a few years later would eventually be close to $5. I haven't bought them since.

      • Love calbee hot and spicy!

    • Any brand honey soy chicken chips are great .

  • +22

    Aldi Blackstone Chilli

    • +1

interesting, will go and grab one to try tomorrow

    • +2

      These are so good.

    • +1

I love this but I often find they're out of stock. So popular.

      • Yeah my local went about 5 weeks without them, I thought they stopped making them.
When I finally saw them again, I grabbed some extra haha.

Haven't had any issues with stock lately though, they always seem there for me now luckily!

    Thins plain potato
    .

  • +15

You still eat Pringles after they went to crap?

    • +7

Nowadays Coles and Woolworths homebranded stacked chips are far superior to Pringles. $1.80 a can too.

      • +7

So much this. I hate the Pringle's taste now. It's as if they didn't turn down the flavouring when they made the chips smaller diameter

        • +2

          … and added soap powder.

        • They got sold to Kellog's a few years back. They're not the same anymore

          • +7

@koplik8: They were still the same until production was moved to Malaysia. Can't understand why they haven't switched back because nobody eats them any more, they've had their shelf space reduced to the bare minimum and are discounted constantly - surely can't be profitable.

            • +4

@ssquid: The US made ones were awesome. Then production moved to Malaysia, and they started tasting like Mr Potatoes crisps. Probably made in the same factory, just re-branded.

Have boycotted them since the move.

              • @KSMLJ: When I go to America I still make sure I buy a few packets of the original American Pringle's. Night and day with the new rubbish we have here

      • +1

The Woolies and Coles homebrand versions are both made in the same factory in Malaysia as the Pringles are.

        • Are they? I really hate new Pringles. The consistency is awful. Coles/Woolies fake Pringles don't seem as bad. I will say though, I have not conducted any double blind studies into this.

          • +1

@freakatronic: Yep, it's the same product minus some extra seasoning and then packaged in a generic tin.

            • @infinite: Huh…how about that. Where can I get yummier stacked chips then?

              • @freakatronic: No idea. I haven't tried the one's from Aldi or the cheap shops yet.

IMO the equivalent of Pringles sold in most Asian grocers are way better.

    • Just tried them for the first time yesterday, they are pretty good and taste close enough to to the noodles to scratch that dirty/cheap/delicious itch.

    • Those Chitato Indomie mi goreng chips are amazing! And at Woolies.

      https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/814477/chi…

    • Those chitatos are so darn salty. Still like them though.

  • +14

      • +7

I think Aldi’s Blackstone chilli chip is pretty delicious and similar to the old kettle chilli flavour

      • OMG used to have a pack a day at school.

    • +3

A little bit of me died when herb & spice stopped being stocked, and it never recovered. Goodbye childhood memories.

      • +1

        RIP Green bag of goodness

    • Old school orange packet Kettle Honey Baked Ham, before they changed the recipe.

    • A bit stale now though

  • +9

    KFC $5 bucket

  • Smith sweet chilli

  • +2

Tend to avoid the chips with meat flavours.

However I do like chicken salt on hot chips.

Just tried the new kettle parmesan and sweet roasted garlic and it's really good

    The others are

    Kettle chilli
Coles natural sea salt and black pepper
Red rock deli lime and black pepper
    Smith's salt and vinegar

  • +4

    Kettles plain

    Can't remember brand:
    Light & tangy
    Sour cream & Chives

  • +6

Do multi-grain chips count? The only chips we buy are the Multi-Grain Waves Sour Cream & Chives.

    • +2

That's the one where the grain's parents are bread but he dreams of growing up to be a chip

      • +7

Yep, that's the one! My kids only eat inspirational chips🤣

    • +1

      Totally agree with you YUMMY!

  • +1

Twisty chicken. One of the few flavours I'm disappointed when it's finished.

  • Red Rock Deli honey soy chicken

However I recently tried Vege Chips Deli Crisps. They were amazing, but can only be purchased during a 50% off sale. I am not spending $5.50 for crisps.

  • +2

    Kettle's. And Torres truffle chips

  • +2

    Intel ice lake.

  • Red Rocks steak and chimichurri
    Cheetos

      • +1

I hear ya but too salty for me but truffle iz good.

    • Torres is so much better than Red Rock. There's jack all truffle in Red Rock

  • +1

Cornae American Corn Snack, but they are made in Thailand.
Comes in a packet or can and is found in many Asian grocery stores here in Australia.
    Absolutely addictive and delicious.

  • Bluebird Salt and Vinegar

  • Kettle style plain salted.

The Coles ones are even thicker, more crunch.

Feeling A bit boring but can't beat a mouthful of salt ^^.

    • Chased with Little Creatures

      • Yes chips and beer are undoing all the good work I out in with my diet earlier this year. Kinda dgaf while I'm doing it though. Ate chocolate almonds for breakfast. Why am I a child?

  • +1

Salt & Vinegar - has to be crinkle cut (In a purple bag, I forget the brand - Smiths?!)

  • Smiths because all their chips taste the same. Puts me off buying chips altogether

  • +2

Another +1 for Kettle Chilli here. People seem to be saying that Aldi's Blackstone Chilli is good too so will have to check them out.

Also didn't mind the Kettle Chilli & Lime.

    • +2

Yup id say they are 90% as good for less $$$. We love them.

  • +1

    Bbq shapes.

  • I used to like Thins Chicken decades ago when it tasted like potato chips + heaps of chicken salt. Then they changed the recipe from chicken salt to a more traditional chicken seasoning type taste and its just never been the same since. Now I just get the plain Thins chips unless there's a special edition tomato flavour chips on sale somewhere then I get that instead :)

  • Smith's Mac & Cheese flavour.

  • Why can't they make low salt chips in olive oil like those in Europe? These chips are amazing.
