Kogan Fortis Electric Bike - Has Anyone Used It?

Do you have this bike?

I would like to know:

  1. How fast does it go without pedaling - faster than 6km/h?
  2. Does the motor cut out at 25m/h?

These are Queensland requirements, so I want to know if it complies.

Also, any other comments about this bike, or alternatives?

Thanks for any comments!

Chances are it will be cheap enough for you to buy it, but cheap enough for you to regret it.
The advice is to always touch/see/hear/smell/taste the bike in-person, and buy it for a fair price. It ends up being the better value!

PS: Even if it (narrowly) over-steps the requirements, how would the authorities be able to verify/fine you for it?

    There is a review here.
    https://samtoohey.xyz/fortis-urban-speeder-the-ideal-startin…

The review was initially good, but the author changed it to a 1.5 Out of 5 rating when the bike broke down.

My alternative recommendation is the Entity E-100 folding eBike as a much better built alternative. I got mine from Aldi for $799 but if purchased online it'll set you back 850.

My thoughts on it so far:

    • It folds down to a compact size, but it is still very heavy at 20kg's. It's not something that you want to continually lug around when it's folded.

    • Top speed I have achieved is around 30km/h (not very fast). This is mainly due to it's small wheels (20"), & at times I wished I had bigger wheels so the ride would be less bumpy

    • Hub motor is powerful and makes even steep hill climbs trivial. However, pedal assistance is limited to 25km/h, once you go faster the motor shuts off and it's all human power past that speed limit.

    • The seat post is held in place with quick release clamps, after you have ridden for you might have to get off the bike and re-adjust the seat post as it can often slide downwards under your weight.

    • There are five levels of pedal assistance and a 'walk' mode which is very useful when removes the need to push your bike when you are walking alongside it. I've also found the range to be very good so far, maybe around 40kms if the battery is charged to full

Apart from that, it's a good starter ebike with a good construction and nothing about it feels flimsy, apart from the plastic chain guard which can get bent out of shape if you drop your bike :)

Great info, thanks very much! Your recommendation looks interesting.

Does yours have a "pedelec" label on it?
Also, what is the fastest you can go on the level without pedaling?

      • The bike you are looking at is also considered a men's bike whereas the bike scrimshaw recommended is a girls bike. You can tell because of the U frame. U frames are designed for people who wear dresses and skirts

        • Reasonable observation:)

It’s not really a girls bike, it’s just a step through bike. Unisex. Old people love them because they don’t need to lift legs over high bars. Many folding bikes are the same style

  • Look I bought a fortis 3 secondhand and it was awesome it doesn’t cut out at 25 k’s you can make it go faster with a little hack on the computer board it is really easy to do now it’s so easy to pedal it is a little heavy but overall I would have to give it a 9 out of 10 only because of the weight and I am small and old the only reason why I don’t still writing it is because I bought a new One and a price that I could not reject Mine being secondhand meaning it had done some miles it never failed to impress me esp with my bike trailer on the back it would definitely be worth the money and your time look up on YouTube fortis 3 reviews and hacks for speed u be won’t be disappointed

    • Wow. That’s a long sentence.

  • I must add mine pedal assist NEVER cut out even after speed hack when bike went ten ks faster

  • After hack u get nine levels of speed it’s pretty cool

  • The only way to go without peddling is add throttle I promise u now it’s not like peddling an old bike as long as the peddles are moving it makes motor work u don’t have to force it
