  • Takes any telco’s SIM?

Works with all AU 4G/3G Networks
Use high-speed 4G networks to offer the best possible connection to your devices

  • Gigabit lte?
    Cat 16/18/20

      Cat4 150/50mbit
      Not worth it IMHO

      • Is that speed too slow?
        Will it throttle 4g network?
        Sorry newbie questions.

        • +1

If you get a strong signal and not too much congestion, then yes, it will throttle.

If like me you live regional, then most of the time no, will keep up ok for average use.

Just have reasonable expectations from it for one or two people at once.

      • Highly agree, rather hotspot from tablet than slow af, modems from carriers. Except the Telstra negear m2 (cat20, 2gb/s) highly desirable.

        • How fast is the speed of hotspot from tablet compared to this?

          • +1

@MagicTsukai: Depends on tablets, iPhone 6s has cat 6 lte which is pretty slow like 300mb/s, cat 9 has 600mb/s, cat 16 has 1000mb/s and cat 20 (SD855 device e.g. s10, lg v50, g8) can support 2000mb/s download speeds.

So in short, the newer tablet you hotspot from should have same speed if modem support same category lte. However, modems tend to have a stronger connection but modems rarely upgrade their lte category except for Huawei and netgear nighthawks m series. Cat 4 is 150mbs download (aka 10 year old technology).

IMHO, i’d Recommend latest tablets e.g. tab s6 or iPad Air or pro due to this newer lte category.

Would these work with vividwirless sims?

    • I don’t believe so. Vivid locked to one device, the Huawei B315.

    • It works

Hi OP, will it work as a Wifi router using separate adsl/broadband modem and use 4G as backup?

    • Yes it could be a pure wireless Wi-Fi router for Ethernet port WAN

  • I'm in the market for something similar but ideally Cat 9 or higher and not a mobile hotspot device like the AC800S. Can anyone recommend anything? Optus network.

    • Huawei B618 from Telstra, CAT11

  • Does it work as a Wifi router and modem for separate adsl/broadband and use 4G as backup?

    • It has a Ethernet WAN port for using as a wireless Wi-Fi router but you will need to switch 4G and Ethernet WAN manually

      • +1

Hi thank you for reply, manually means- is there a switch

        • Yes, just configure via WebUI

I can't seem to find any info/reviews etc about this model online, not even a mention on Whirlpool. Is it a new model or rebadged or something?

  • I got one to replace my Optus Huawei E5186s and I am getting around 2-4mbit down and 6-10mbit up vs around 50mbit down and 50mbit up on the Huawei.

So its going in the bin. Pretty disappointed with the signal I am getting and with no apparent way to force it on to another band, which I can do with the Huawei, you can switch between 4g TDD/FDD which will switch bands it will pick from, buy you cant force it to pick a specific band.

The big issue I have with the Huawei is that it reboots every 5 minutes if I have WiFi on, so I am using an Asus router for WiFi, so I did not try the WiFi on the Foxxd.

The interface is ok, has more features than I was expecting out of something so cheap, like QoS, port forwarding etc but as I am not using it as a router I cant really comment on how well it all works.

Build quality, its fine, but cheap feeling. It's really light and the few buttons it does have feel pretty terrible. The antenna ports are recessed in to the case so I don't think my antennas are screwed in firmly cause I can't get my fingers in to tighten them down.

Overall I am dissapointed with it, but will give it another few days to see if I can tweak anything to get better performance out of it. Otherwise it's going in the bin.
