Cashflow Tracking Software - for Tax Return and Personal Spending

I've been using excel to keep tracking of spending over the last decade or so and think its about time to try something more sophisticated.
Originally started doing it near the end of my Uni days when life was simpler - it was meant to track my basic income and spending and work out how much money is theoretically leftover on a weekly, monthly, yearly basis. However it's been modified and tweaked over time, and used to assist me with tax returns. Also neglected for periods of time due to inconvenience of having to open it up just to enter some transactions in. I now have a young family, property investments, work and all kinds of spending.

Is there a software tool that meets the following requirements:
* Allows you to enter transactions and mark it as personal or work related
* Allows you to enter recurring transactions (e.g. monthly, quarterly bills)
* Allows you to work related transactions more specifically using the same terminology the ATO uses
* Generally ties to ATO structure (for lack of better term) so that i can generate reports that makes sense to a tax accountant
* Reporting shows weekly, monthly, yearly cashflow
* Bonus: has mobile app to take pictures of receipts

Happy to explore any ideas that may not meet the above criteria exactly but still relate to this

  • Have you looked into the apps that will connect to your bank accounts/credit cards to analyse your spending? I havent used them for a while, but they may have even included tax things now too. Pocketbook is the one that comes to mind

    • While I've used one such app too, just beware that these kinds of apps can be a breach of your bank's T&Cs (regarding not sharing your login information) that could, if you're ever hacked or scammed or defrauded, lead to the bank refusing to reimburse or compensate you where otherwise you might have received something.

  • Try YNAB (it should do most of what you need, except the pictures of receipts) or PocketSmith.

    • We are using YNAB. It is very useful but very pricey. Also, MsMoney does better in reporting while YNAB's report is preset.

      Neither interface with banks.

YNAB has a flatter learning curve. MsMoney is a lot harder to learn but satisfyingly insightful.

  • Any free ones?

    • Just remember if it's not F(L)OSS and you're not paying for the product, you are the product.

  • MsMoney Deluxe Sunset.

I have been using this for almost 10 years.

    • Can i still get this today Msmoney deluxe sunset??
