Deals.com.au comes through with a refund in 40 minutes after 9pm on a Tuesday night

I had an issue with [BUSINESS NAME REMOVED] today. Dodgy IMO. I didn't know at the time of buying the voucher that this company was operated out of a residence in a dodgy part of perth.

I called to book the sessions and was told that I would receive a text telling me the address and the instructions. After 5 - 6 weeks, I sent her a text saying, I need the address for my appt on 21 st and 28th june at 9am. The response I get gives me the street address. That's all.

So I show up at 9am. Knock, hear furitive movement. Knock three differnt times. Return to car. Text message saying, your appt at 930 and you have to come to back door.

I resent me text where I confirmed time, then sent another saying you should have rescheduled earlier, not at 9am for a 9am appt and that I would be requesting a refund. That was really all I said. Rec a response stating that she couldn't believe I spoke to her this way and maybe we could work together when I was calm. She said it was only half an hour she was asking me to wait. From this, I thought maybe she was going to say there was a verbal altercation and texted her and reminded her her the last time we spoke was months ago and that she had no way to know whether I was calm or not. I said don't contact me anymore, just let various authorities deal with complaint. Of cource she responded with more abuse saying I was abusing her and telling me she would be "writing" complaints on me. I was shopping by then and just bust out laughing.

I got around to complaining to deals.com.au just after 9pm eastern time. They gave me a credit less than 40 minutes later. I pretty much just let the transcripts of our texts put the cae to a refund.

Mod: Removed address for privacy reasons. Removed business name as the issue has already been resolved between voteoften and deals.com.au.

    feel better now?

I'm not a big fan of group buying anyways.

      Much better. Thanks for asking.

She must be a pretty poor hypnotist anyway…a good one would've been able to convince you that the appt was in fact 9.30 & you were misreading it; that you never waited the extra half hour; the session had gone great; and lastly that you were either Elvis Presley or a barnyard chicken! ;)

  • Indeed!

The thing is that I am actually quite hypnotis-able. From past efforts to gather info.

All I was looking for was a bit of extra motivation, not a life changing craving for fried peanut butter banana sandwiches.

  • You're not talking Broadway in Nedlands are you? Coz that's not really dodgy…but the whole not telling you the address and then asking you to go to the back door - I'd have got out of there too!

    • No, Neddy isn't dodgy. Bassendean. hehe

  • Thumbs up to deals.com. I like them most out of all the group buys, most friendly website

  • Wow, that's awesome. Do you know where deals.com.au are based?

    • Melbourne. They have their phone number on the website.

  • Wow done deals.com.au.

Providing good customer service without a customer having to complain on a forum and provide a ticket number. Who would've thought???

    • I guess when you provide reasonable customer service, you can actually have a customer service number listed. I chose to email so I could send transcripts of the text messages.

  • It certainly does come as a surprise. When I requested a refund from them, they engaged in dishonest behaviour and made false and defamatory statements about myself and another person. They refused to believe me, as a customer, based on LIES that the business in question made. I found them to be a disreputable company, with shockingly bad customer service. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone, and will never again buy from their site. (and unfortunately I cannot disclose further details about this on the forum, due to the nature of the claims and the fact that it involves another person who does not wish the matter to be made even more public than it already has been).

I've dealt with other sites for refunds (Scoopon, JumpOnIt, Ouffer and Spreets) and deals.com.au has by far been the worst and most dishonest.

    • can i ask what deal it was?

      • It was a deal for mens hairdressing "salon" in Melbourne.

        • Can you give us some more details. Like what they did or said. I love details……………

  • I have had two bad experiences with deals.com.au. Both of which probably aren't deals.com.au's fault.
The first was with Polished & Poised in Kelmscott.
I phoned this woman every day after I purchased a voucher. I said I understand there may be a wait I just want to know if I can even use the voucher since it had been months of calling, texting and even emailing. I never got an answer.
I then emailed deals.com.au and asked what my rights were in obtaining a refund since I couldnt seem to use my voucher or get a response or even a booking for later on and it had been months. They told me they would pass on my details to the woman at Polished and Poised and let her know I was waiting for a response.
I then got a VERY abusive email back about how busy she is, and how I think I am the only person waiting for an appointment, and how I don't know what its like to work 90 hours a week. She was quite colourful in the way she spoke to me, I was so shocked.
Being that like you, this "Beauty Salon" was actually someones back room, I immediately felt uncomfortable entering her home after the way she had spoken to me. So I forwarded the email to deals.com.au and while they could acknowledge the lack of customer service, they only offered me a credit. And even that took two weeks and reminder emails from me, to be put back onto my account.

Anyways I continued to buy off deals.com.au because I thought this was just a one off incident.

However just recently I purchased a deal for canvasfactory, for some prints.
They say on their website that they are based in Tasmania, and use Australian products and are Australian owned & printed in Australia. So I thought this was a great deal being local quality.

However I just received my prints and they came from China. They weren't sent through Australia Post, and they obviously weren't printed in Australia either!
So I went and had a look on their website for contact details and there are NONE.
Then I searched truelocal for their business listing and their phone number is "0000 0000".

What do you think my chances of receiving a refund?
I have emailed CanvasFactory just asking why my prints were sent from China when it says they print locally in Australia at their company in Tas.. and received no response.

Because I guess deals.com.au might say it is out of their control? But the way I see it is it was misleading, it is not Australian quality, and it certainly wasn't value for money. I could have organised for them to be printed in China for a lot less than what I paid!!

    Hmmm..
    I certainly wouldn't buy from deals.com.au again.

    • Where on the website does it say they print in Australia. Under 'about us' it says they are located in Tasmania and their ABN was certainly registered in Tasmania.

Is there anything actually wrong with the print or it's just that you feel ripped off because you thought it was printed in Australia (not that I can find that reference). If what you say is true and they do make such a statement you can complain to the ACC about a false or misleading statement.

It would be very hard to repudiate the contract however and other than reporting it to the ACCC there's not much you could reasonably do other than sue.

      • +1

No I won't be suing! I don't even think I will apply for a refund. The prints are fine, I was just annoyed because I could have paid a lot less to get them printed in China if I wanted to, but I chose to go "local", I thought it was probably a family business.
I guess the lack of communication is annoying as well as feeling cheated, but other than that the prints were fine so I'm neutral about it.

I don't think I would have been half as annoyed if I didn't have that first god awful experience with deals.com.au.
But now I am just put off deals.com.au.

  • Like I said, not really deals.com.au's fault, just my bad experiences.
I do think they could get to know the company they are advertising a bit better too.
