Mobile Mechanic (Lube Mobile) VS Workshop?

Pros/Cons?

Autoguru priced my service around $185-210 as a $50 off promo ATM
Excludes I'd be stuck in the CBD, or elsewhere.
Bridgestone, ABS workshops with good reviews.

Lube Mobile is $208 and they come to you!

Ford charges me $330 with car loan for my service, so either way it's cheaper.

Ford Focus 90000km service, even tho I've only done 82000kms I'm always getting it serviced ahead by time.

Thanks

i'm a fan of finding a decent workshop with an honest mechanic and building a relationship with them.

By all accounts, $200 is what it will cost you at a bricks and mortar shop or possibly with an independent mobile mechanic that doesn't pay a fortune in franchise fees. Aim for that with somewhere convenient

      • Basically, if anyone has any experiences and if essentially the same service.

I've always brought my cars to the dealerships, as I normally change every 2-3 years.

Dealer servicing is probably only worth it if you plan on trading in to the same dealer when you upgrade. Otherwise finding a regular mechanic to use that will follow the log book schedule will save money and not cost anything on reselling.

As a wise man once said to me, "Cool story bro".

    • Cool story, bro. 🙄

  • Read your service schedule. If it's just an oil and filter change, this can be done without any power tools or large equipment.

If the service includes changing timing belts or transmission work, these can require access from under the vehicle and may be better performed in a fully equipped workshop.

    • I would do it myself, however as the cars only 5-6 years old I figured keeping a log book service is more appealing for resale.

Looks to me like a basic service, that's why I looked elsewhere instead of the dealership.

  • mobile mechanic are robots

find a mechanic somewhere that you are happy with & stick with him/her

    • Depends on the mechanic. We had a good mechanic who went mobile so continued to use him until he sold his business and went to work for a larger workshop as a supervisor. Would have continued to use him but his new location does not suit us - and he is off the tools.

      • We mechanics do not last long in the business, especially if one is tall & the hoists don't go high enough; it is a pain in the back, leaning over engines for hours ain't fun either
